DPF issues poll

Seems the amount of complaints about the 22+ DPF regen issues has died down over the last few months for the Cummins motor. Has me wondering why, so thought I'd start a poll. Let me know if I need to add some choices.

For me, I pretty much only use the truck for towing. I'd like to drive it a little more, but we have other vehicles for town driving. I keep hoping Ram will have a recall on this instead of just the TSB they issued.

Replaced MAF sensor, cleaned MAP sensor, started running Archoil.

Regen intervals now seem to be extending after those changes, but the next move is likely to be a bit more dramatic if the problem isn’t resolved.

I can't say I ever really had an issue with regens, though it didn't take much to load the DPF up. I started adding Archoil a few months ago and regens are now at what I would consider a sane level.

How an additional poll for idle hours on your CTD's? I'm at 30K miles with 80 idle and 820 driving on a 22. I've never seen my DPF gauge register anything other than zero. Once in a blue moon I notice a passive regen mostly from the "hot smell" and drop in MPG during the cycle.

I think excessive idle time is problematic.

I think at some point, you're probably right. But I had an awful time with continuous regens last summer. I was at 24K miles, 59 idle, 520 driving. I blame it on the bio-diesel up north, but who knows? Several good tows and some Archoil seem to have things back where they were.

Idle time is only one piece to the puzzle.

My work rig is 30 percent idle time charging batteries and bouncing around off road, and 70 percent getting the snot ran out of it hauling heavy. Zero DPF issues.

My personal rig is 10 percent idle time, but doesn’t get nearly the hard running. It’s got regen frequency issues, although not enough to throw a code as of yet.

I voted Archoil because that seemed to be the most helpful on my 22. But it was also important to use the correct engine air filter. Mopar 53034051AB or Fleetguard AF27684. Any of the aftermarket Wix / Fram, or the wrong mopar filter (68517554AA) and it would go into significantly shorter regen frequencies.

I’d be careful with the “never had a problem with regen” category. Could be very misleading. There may be quite a number of people who “never had a problem” but also never really monitored their frequency or watched their own trucks behaviors. It’s very easy to just drive the truck and be completely unaware that it’s regenerating far more frequently than it should be. Ram’s program logic and how they determine what is “too frequent” is absurd.

My '22 has been on a downward trend for the last few thousand miles. When the truck was new I could get to the 24hr timed regen pretty consistently. At about 22k it was getting harder to get to that point and I started to have more soot load regens. Last summer I think I got an over oiled air filter that did not help the situation, my regens dropped to around 10 hours when not towing. I bought one of the new part# air filters for the '19-24 trucks and that made the situation worse, it dropped my regens down to about 5 hrs. I have since swapped out the air filter to a AF27684 which seems to be helping, im back up to 15-17 hr regens.
The thing that really pisses me off is that my 2018 3500 HO never had a soot load regen in the 39k that I owned (I monitored the regen interval) and I rarely used any type of fuel treatment, did more short trips and idled it a little more than the current truck.
There is no reason why these trucks shouldn't be able to perform the same way. My opinion is these have ****ty tuning and now that most of the 2022's are getting out of warranty Stellantis will have no incentive to try to figure out why some of these trucks are doing this and potentially release a software update in the future to address the problem.

My concern is I bought my truck sitting on the showroom floor with 110km on the clock with 52hours of idle time, the dealers dont care about nothing but money.

Same. I sometimes regret trading my '18 CTD on my '22. But I never really monitored the DPF gauge on the '18. That was really not a common thing to do until the 22's started having issues.
