2024 Tailgate Release w/ out 12VDC

My 2025 Ram 3500 uses latch #6828 0337 A1.

One more option. Which is how I got mine open. Use a 3” long T40 wrench and you can slip it past the latches and remove the latch pin from the truck body. It is a pain because the washer they use also has to be unthreaded from the pin by holding it a small screwdriver to keep it from turning while you unscrew the latch pin.

Just so I understand, the driver side is a push (up) to release and the passenger side is pull to release?

The reason I ask is the technician said the passenger side was a lot more difficult to release.

Now I just need to make sure I didn't fry the latches.

That photo is not at all like my latch. I will try to post a photo tomorrow.

I do not think they operate on 12 volts. Tried to open gate by applying power to connector and ended up frying both latches. Had to purchase new replacements. $92 each.

Please re read my post. Passenger is pull. Driver is push and easer.

Here is what we came up with, safety wire twisted inside a brake line. It seems to work, however since finally being about to finally put it back on, the truck thinks the tailgate is still open.

Smashing my brand new tailgate is the gift that keeps on giving.

If you have a cover of some sort over the bed, how would you gain access to the inner workings of the tailgate to manually release?

I ran into a different issue opening the tailgate this week. I had previously Fluid Filmed the entire interior of the gate, including the latches for lubrication. Turns out the darn stuff freezes and then made opening impossible. Couldn't gain internal access with a tonneau cover on the bed. Had to wait till the gate thawed out. Needless to say flushed that crap out of the latches once open.

NOTE:
The optional Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover may prevent electronic tailgate release. The Tonneau Cover must be removed or folded up before releasing the tailgate.

Just how are you to open or remove the tonneau if the gate is closed?

I came across this thread when I screwed my.

I have a 2020 2500 and replaced my tailgate with a new takeoff from 2025. Not knowing the 2025 doesn't have the levers to actuate the release, I installed it when i picked it up without power because the connector isn't the same. I was away from home and was picking up a rear bumper as well and didn't want it to slide out. When I got home I found out I had made hours more work for myself.

In my research i found that you can indeed release the tailgate by pressing the lever behind the actuator if you have Houdini fingers. I don't. I spent hours trying.

What I was able to do was inject 12vdc on the yellow wire and ground on the black at the connector in the center of the tailgate. This connector is a 4 pin if i remember right. The pink wires in the center are for the tailgate ajar I think. My 2020 doesn't have that function. Regardless, leave the pink wires alone, the far right and left are the yellow and black used to acute the latches.

In order to make it all work I replaced all the electronics and the wire harness with parts from my old tailgate so i wouldn't need to cut and splice the harness. All functional now and I'm a happy camper.

Anyone need two actuators and latches? Lol

On my 2024 when I went to flat bed, a guy wanted to buy my tailgate. The only way I got it to release was to take a battery and connect a neg and positive wire to the plug for the tailgate handle.

Yes, a stupid design. Now you go me worried, arrgghh. I did check mine, and sure enough if I lock it with the key fob, the signal is getting thru even though I disconnected what I though was the simple two conductor connector. The white round connector in your photo and X in mine is the camera connection. So the connection for the tailgate electrical latch must be the one I circled. View attachment 87709

That top plug is where I applied 12v from a battery to get it to open - positive on one side and negative to the other.

Yep, behind the access panel, that's where I went as well.

On a side note, 1 scored that tailgate and bumper for a total of $300 and half a tank of fuel. Paint is going to cost me though.
