RAM Rookie Question

Just sold off my 2017 F350 which replaced my 2005 Dodge 5.9. On my F350 you put the shift lever into "M" for Manual from "D" for drive and then use the + or - to select the gear etc. How do I turn on and off the Gear Selection. I can't exactly figure it out.

I hear you---I had the same issue. I assume you have a 2025 or 2026 Ram HD?
If so:
1, Turn key ON.
2. Arrow down to "7. Commercial settings"
3. Left or right arrow to "Settings"
4. Now arrow down to "Current Gear". Turn on...

In addition to MacksRam post, if you indeed have a 2025 or newer truck, you can turn on the gear limit by pressing the minus switch once, and then selecting the top gear with the +/- buttons. You can hold the minus button at any time to get the lowest possible gear at your current speed. You can hold the plus button or tap it all the way past 8th gear to turn it off.

You can hold the minus button at any time to get the lowest possible gear at your current speed. You can hold the plus button or tap it all the way past 8th gear to turn it off.

Exactly what I was surfing for. I have a 2026. 3500, SRW, special order Laramie. Awsome vehicle....

But here is what I ran into--when I would follow your steps above it would show the gear I was in at all times, but it was "temporary" only---it would not show the gear next time I cranked the truck. Let me know if I did it wrong...
Going through Instrument Panel/Commercial settings/Settings--it holds it "permanent"---it now shows the gear at all times.

Yes, your post is about showing the current gear at all times. You still need to hit the minus button to enter a top gear selection.

ok.... Yes, you are saying I would hit the minus button then enter say 5th gear IF I had a need for it to "hold" that gear for a given situation (i.e. climbing a steep grade, pulling very heavy load a short distance, etc)

What they are describing is not the same thing as the Ford had. Just like the Ford the Ram will let you select a top gear, but the Ford also let you manually select each gear which the Ram will not do.

Yes that's what I was going to say. I never really understood why Ram does it this way. Actual manual shifting is far more useful and convenient.

Just took the truck for a Gear Limiter try. Works now that I understand it better.
