2020 2500 6.4 Fuel mileage

Just did a 875 mile road trip to Baja and back.
4.10 gears and 35x12 50 BFGs.
About 400 miles was with just a medium load in the bed. 275 miles was heavy load in bed and 6K trailer. 200 miles was overloaded bed and 6K trailer. Plus there was about 50 miles of it was pulling up in the mountains, one section was a 11% grade.
Best I saw was 14. Worst was 10. Overall average was 12.
Speeds were from 20 mph in the mountains to some 98 mph with no trailer.

I have a 2020 Bighorn 2500 6.4 ccsb with 4.10s and it has 73k miles.

My MPG according to the main display is averaging 16.3 (typically about.7 mpg high). However, my “B” odometer/trip meter has tracked 5751 miles which includes all driving including towing and hauling and it shows 15.9.

I can get 18 mpg at 70 mph using cruise control.

The towing includes hauling my tractor multiple trips, towing a 8k travel trailer about 150 miles and many trips hauling hay/feed for livestock.

The last trip shows my hours.

Well I changed oil today and so I reset the b trip odometer and it showed 16.5 MPG over 5588.4 miles.

No travel trailer towing but multiple times pulling my tractor and various other loads.

A question on the MPG numbers that have been provided. Are these numbers with MDS?
I haven’t been using MDS and the I’m averaging 16ish on highway and 15 with mixed.
Completely stock on trashforce tires, did take off chin spoiler 5 minutes after I bought it;)
2024 3500 CC 3.73

I’m using the MDS on my truck and I have mild tires General Grabber HD’s that the dealer put on it wit was purchased. Those tires still have 12.7/32” (10mm) of tread depth left after just over 16k miles.

Another oil change at 89,920 miles MPG report and it shows 15.8 MPG for the last 5,020 miles.

Of the 21 fill ups five were towing my tractor (+6,500 pounds) mostly.

Edit: Added hours picture next day

Have had the truck for one week, '24 2500 6.4 3.73 and on our last camping trip with a 4K camper wet and gear plus three passengers and a small dog, we got 10.5MPG hand calculated. Towing the same camper on a similar trip, I got 9.2MPG on a Gladiator Rubicon with 35 inch tires. The dash was reporting 10.8 so pretty close. Starting elevation of 7,300 varying throughout and down to 5,400 and up to 7,275 at the campground and back. Haven't figured out town/Hwy mileage yet.

I have a 2023 6.4 Laramie 2500 MegaCab that gets roughly 17 mpg on cross country trips, hand calculated. That’s with about 900 lbs. in the cab. I’m not sure what I get around town, as I very seldom use it as a daily driver.

I changed oil and rotated the tires today.

This is my worst 5k MPG reading ever at 12.6 MPG, but I have towed a fair bit more than usual over this 5k interval.

I also think my front wheel bearings are needing replacing too.

2025 2500 SB with 4.10s. Stock tires and 5k miles...i get about 12 in my daily commute that is a mix of stop and go plus some freeway. On trips which have only been through the mountains about 16.5.

All unloaded outside of a few dirt bikes in the bed a few times. Not much to add with a trailer until this summer.

Refreshing to see some realistic numbers in this thread. 90% of the time when these MPG threads come up, guys lie about it like they lie about how big the fish they caught was.

REAL mileage hand calculated. 300 mile trip, 65 mph. 4 high mountain passes. 18.26 mpg 2021 hemi CC with 4.10's

I hand calculate my mileage, but I also post what the system say on my 5k mile service(s).

18 MPG is very doable on the highway and I have done it many times.

Best I've done is 16.6MPG on the highway. I get impatient behind idiots driving under the speed limit, so I smash it to pass them.

3.7 gears. 2025 quad cab.

10-12 city. 15-17 highway. 7-9 towing 8k lbs trailer on flat roads.

I honestly wouldn’t expect more unless you never go over 55-60.

My father bought a '24 PW and so far it hasn't broken 13 MPG. Today he had 3,000 lbs. in the bed and 3,000 lbs. on a small utility trailer and still managed 11 MPG mostly highway. The gas trucks drink it down like they are sponsored by OPEC, but on the flip side gasoline here is $.70 per gallon less than diesel right now, so that makes up for a lot of it.

I had an argument with a few diesel fanboys about how gas engines tend to lose less gas mileage towing than diesels and they were not having it.

I used my previous diesel as an example, 24HMY unloaded, 14MPG towing. 42% loss in MPG

On Ram 2500 6.4 normally I get 12.5 mpg combined. 16.5 best I’ve got HWY, towing the same camper 10.5MPG. 36% loss from my all time high HWY MPG. If taken from my combined average is even less. 16.2% loss in MPG.

No one wanted to post their diesel average HWY MPG VS Towing MPG.

100% true. ANY powertrain in any truck will see this same effect; the more efficient it is the more sensitive it is to change. Diesel, hybrid, EV...ALL pickup trucks that have very efficient powertrains also see the largest losses when they are subject to loads.

I honestly wasn’t trying to stir the pot that time. I was just talking about my experience.
