My 2024 Dually build thread

Probably a pretty simple swap. The Oracle @Jimmy07 will know how involved it is.
Being fully transparent here, I wasn't intuitive enough to figure that out on my own. I noticed a YouTuber comment about adjusting for LED's...That got me thinking.

The Venom 35 10.50R17 tires were installed today.

I used the 1/4" spacers, same as Gimmie11's did on his 35" tire swap.

Then onto the fronts:

Tread pattern obviously stolen from BFG!

I had good clearance between the not-so-wide dual wheels

It was a snow day, so the truck is pretty dirty. I'll have to clean it up and get some better shots

I used internal bead balancing, just like I have for a couple of decades. Kyle used 8.5 oz per tire. All tires were inflated to 80 psi at the shop. The ride home was amazing!
Really, I never expected such a smooth ride. The truck has never been that smooth. It was like driving on air. I can only hope these tires continue to ride like this, although experience tells me: Enjoy it while you still can."

These Venom tires are much quieter than the Toyos RT's I took off. And the ride is so, so much smoother. I will attribute part of that smoothness to the larger diameter and some to the tires being new, but, WOW, what a difference.

For the love of god, let some air out of the tires!!!

80 psi is ridiculous.

65 in all 6 is what you would need for full axle weight ratings.

35 in the rears is sufficient for a 7K RAW, and what I’d run unit you exceed that.

55-60 is probably good for the fronts since the DRW adapters cause funny wear on lower pressure fronts than the SRW’s do.

Those tires look fantastic on that big beauty. Congrats!

Glad to hear they run out smooth... I fought balancing mine for several months before I found shop that could do it correctly.

And yeah... dropping tire pressure will make it ride noticeably better for sure.

Sounds good
The 80 psi is just what I saw on the TPMS on the drive home. The driveway is covered with wet snow/slush, so I'm not going to take a cold bath. I would have already significantly reduced the pressure if it were not so. I'll get it PDQ.

Pressure adjusted to 65 front and 50 rear

Ride: Even smoother!

That’s still more air than needed for an empty truck, even a moderately loaded DRW.

Give 35 in the rears a try, you’ll ride better, wear better, brake better, and accelerate with more traction.

50 psi in the rear will almost support the RAWR, it will support 9,420.

All right, I'll tweak it a bit lower and see what happens.

Finding a good quality air pressure gauge is proving to be a challenge. The four I have do not agree, and none of them agree with the TPM,S which shows higher pressures in all tires than the analog gauge (s)

The newer TPMS sensors are pretty accurate, and report fast enough that you can use them for adjusting pressure. Ram calls it selectable tire fill, you can even set a pressure and get the horn to honk during inflation/deflation. It’s a little wonky, but the TPIS display is accurate enough to use live.

This might be the best looking dually on this site!

No offense to the MegaCab crowd, but the crew cab dually on big tires just looks cooler in my opinion.
Thank you!

I like it, but strangely, I think the mega-cab duallys look better. The truck Gimme11s has is my favorite.

If the Expedition one rear bumper ever shows, I think I can improve on the looks a bit more, we'll see...

Just a minor update: I am very pleased with this newfound smoothness. The ride is so different than that of the Toyos.

I did discover where the tire changer scraped up the back wheels. I showed it to the tire shop. They immediately agreed to have it fixed.

Yeah, same thing happened to mine. I hit them with a black sharpie but -- your idea to have shop fix them is better for sure!
