2022 Uconnect 5 12.0 Glitches

Thanks for looking into it for me!

Why did OTA updates get suspended?
They are having a bad run of OTA releases- bricked jeeps, apps graphics on the TRX, can’t get the phone as a fob released (which has been a selling feature on the 1500 for 2 years now). I’m only guessing they’re hitting pause and trying to figure out what’s going on with software team.
But RamCares has mentioned the OTA suspension on a few forums now.

Sounds reminiscent of the “Tow-Specific Navigation” that was touted as a primary feature when UC5 was rolled out. Only for it to never work initially, and then quietly get scrubbed from both future software updates and the corporate website itself. Like it never happened.

Or the wireless tow cameras, which actually show up in my system sometimes but don’t exist.

Actually, the wireless aux camera part seems to exist to buy, but I’ve never heard of anyone that has the feature:

Interesting. I’ve seen it show up on my system before, I don’t remember where though. I’d have to go poking again.

Jimmy07, thanks for the info. Any idea when they will resume OTA updates? I'm hoping for full-screen Android Auto.

Full screen Android auto will never happen on a Uconnect 5 radio.
This is all I know about the OTA updates:

I wonder why it seems the auto manufacturers can't seem to roll out software that isn't completely bug ridden? Do they not pay enough for qualified programmers?

The chevy trucks are full screen since the radios are horizontal vs vertical...

So unless ram changes the radio design its not happening like Jimmy mentioned.

My '22 12" still black screens a few times a month, im on the latest software.

It’s not that. Android auto itself has been capable of adapting to landscape and portrait screens for years. There are even aftermarket magic boxes that will force Android auto to be full screen on the Rams by tricking the radio into thinking it’s CarPlay.
The hardware in the UC5 radios just aren’t capable of being programmed for full screen Android auto (even though, ironically, it’s an Android based OS).

Yeah, that's disappointing. I know Subaru has a vertical infotainment screen and they figured out full screen Android Auto. Oh well, thanks Jimmy07.

Thanks for the info @Jimmy07!

Hopefully when the OTA is resumed, there will be an update that resolves some of the issues. But I won't hold my breath.

How are they not capable?

They should be capable if UC is built on Android Automotive. I think it comes down to the programmer's skills and money. I'm guessing Stellantis' coders aren't skilled enough to make it happen, and if they are, then it gets too expensive to take the time, code, debug, rollout, etc.

I'll concede there, though I work in IT programming isn't my skill. But still seems possible, I assume they chose ACP because of the market share of iphones vs android.

If it is a hardware limitation it does seem strange that both the OEM navigation and CarPlay can display in full screen on an Android Automotive OS but Android Auto can't.
