Changing this to a FYI post, not a whole lot out there in the way of info on the ‘25+ Tradesman.

Bought a new ‘25 Tradesman gasser, love the truck, drives nicer than my previous ‘18 Big Horn 6.4.

Got it home before I noticed it didn’t have remote start. Everything comes with remote start nowadays, but whatever, gotta have it for our Nebraska winters.

Dealer parts guy said Mopar remote start is in back order. Found one on Moparonline, about $180.

Then only the dealer can install, $470 to install a hood latch, wire harness, and program!

I’m not super happy, but whatever, it’s done. Was told the button would show up on the phone app once installed. Nope. You have to buy Ram Connect Wi-Fi Plus for almost $200 a year to get the remote start.

My 3rd Ram HD purchase in a row, my friends always liked my trucks, coworker gonna trade his Tundra for one, told him about the cost of a remote start nowadays, he’s gonna hold onto his Toyota a while longer.

Just passing this on to whoever needs this info.

For what it's worth, my '21 Laramie required a subscription for it as well, so it is nothing new. That truck had a nice weather page , I had the 12" screen, that was free. My new '25 now requires me to subscribe to their WiFi+ plan to get the weather as well as the others I don't really need, for what you mentioned $200/year

New one on me. I've never known base trim level trucks to automatically come with remote start. In fact, it's still sometimes an option even on mid-level trims. True of all the brands I've had.

But for whatever it's worth, there are usually aftermarket options that work as well or better than OE, are less expensive, and some of them can be installed to have longer range between the remote and truck too. So if I was in your shoes I'd just search around, maybe talk to a car audio shop or visit a local Best Buy store.

My buddy bought a new ram and put an amazon remote start kit on it and it’s been working great for him. I was super skeptical but he swears by it

guess it didn't already have the hood latch sensor already on it?

we had a '21 that didn't come with the sensor while the majority of the other tradesmans built for that MY did. would have thought the sensor was pretty much standard these days.

and yes - Ram is behind the times on the "free app functionality". think I only got 3 or 6 months of access on my '22 Bighorn

You don't get a key FOB with remote start on it?

My 2024 2500 6.4 Big Horn didn't come with the hood latch sensor, although it was a low mileage rental. I plan on eventually having a after market system added.

I recently traded a '13 Ferd F350 Lariat for a '25 Ram 3500 Trader. No RS on the Ram and ~6 months later, don't really miss it.

I also have a '23 Ferd Bronco without RS since it has that weird user-operable gear transgression machine. Don't miss it there either.
Most people probably don’t need a remote start, my truck sits outside (wife’s car and toys are in the garage), but winter just set in here, just warming it up 2-3 minutes is easier on the truck when I get on the highway in about 1/2 mile on the way to work.

Agree! I had a '20 (1500 4x4) that had that too and loved it for really remote camping in CO. Many didn't it but that also was run off of satellite so it would connect even in the middle of nowhere. They changed the contract with Sirius and that took that away. So now almost everything is off of a cell/mobile connection, which means that the connection does not work well in the backcountry/middle of nowhere. Was super bummed when I got my '25 Power Wagon that they took that away!

I did activated the remote start feature on my '24 Big Horn CC 4x4. It was simple. I got a remote from Amazon, a 1000 Ohm resistor to simulate the hood being closed, a $55 KaodTech bypass cable, JScan app ($20 license fee per vehicle) and a Bluetooth OBD dongle.

This is what I did.
  1. Got the keyfob programmed with JScan-Used this keyfob from Amazon- https://a.co/d/7TuheAQ
  2. Grounded the violet/blue wire with an inline 1K Ohm-.25Watt resistor coming from a gray plug under the fuse box in the engine compartment. (The resistor is to be wired inline in a pig tail going from the Violet/Blue wire in the vehicle harness to ground).
Inline 1k Ohm cable.jpg
  1. Activated remote start
  2. Since I don't have a wired hood latch, I selected the Hood latch present (Don't remember the exact words on JScan)
  3. Activated 1,000 Ohms resistor with JScan
  4. Drove around over 35 MPH for about 5 minutes
