What did you do TO your RAM today?

I’m on a roll...added the K&N air filter today. I opted for the K&N to get a little more HP and hopefully added torque. Minor gains but I’ll take it. I put the K&N on top of the factory OEM filter to show how massive it is. I put a plug socket in front for scale. Looks like it might be similar to me trying to breathe through one of those N95 masks when I’m in the grocery store !!

I guess as long as you add another filter downrange to catch all of the dirt, it should work just fine!

Rich,
Be cautious. K&N filters have been proven to pass particles. They increase airflow but at the cost of reduced filtration. Your stock filter is hard to beat.

If you want more volume here's a filter that gets a lot of play for our engines

Man John that is one funky looking filter, I like it , looks effective with out having to worry about cleaning all the time so you don't pass particles through. Only problem is it said it's for only up to 18 model and wouldn't fit 19 and up. I'm going to research that brand though, thank you.

I believe the 2018s and the 2019-20s all use the same air filter

Hi RIch, great to hear from you. The part number is 33-5005 and is the same for diesel and gas engines. I verified on the K&N site, I pasted the link below. I got mine on Amazon for $68.29.

There seems to be a lot of unsolicited strong opinions about the K&N. I’m not an engineer so I don’t have qualified expertise, I’m just a regular guy who did some data oriented research to help boost performance a little to help towing. I don‘t go off someone’s opinions they heard somewhere, as Joe Friday said ... just the facts. The facts are it has proven horsepower and torque gains albeit minimal. To me it’s worth it to gain 5 more hp and torque. In short I‘m pretty sure the K&N does what it supposed to do otherwise they wouldn’t still be in business. If engines failed because of their product they’d be litigated right out of existence. I do have experience with the brand, I’ve run K&N filters on my vehicles, including ATVs, for years without incident.

At the end of the day, it is an air filter ... that does filter particles to some degree. It stands to reason less restriction lets the engine breathe easier. The same logic applies to HVAC filters. You can get filters that catch particles down to the wee tiniest of microns. Talk to a HVAC guy and they’ll tell you that type of filter smothers and kills the system, use a simple filter but make sure you change them at regular intervals. I clean my filter at regular intervals just like all other required maintenance.

I also pasted a video link to YouTube where a test is done using oil analysis. If the filter doesn’t do its job the end result is the particles end up in the oil. This guy does a great job explaining it.

Good luck

awesome response. Thanks for all your research and leg work, I'm the same way, ill research something to death to make my personnel best choice and ill do the same in this for instance. Thanks again for your help

^^^^^ Good idea, thanks
Hey John, there a good company, got back to me real quick, I like that. It's a no go on the 19&20 models, hears the email the responded with.
Thanks for reaching out to us regarding your 2020 Ram. At this time we do not have a high flow replacement filter that fits the 2020 Ram trucks, yet. Currently we do not have design in the works, most likely we will start design sometime next year.

Thanks,

I mean.. that's an interesting claim, but nothing substantive to back it up but one UOA?
Certainly not trying to convince anyone one way or the other, if you feel you've done your homework and are happy, no sweat off my back...I just feel that guy really did not make his case either for or against.

This guy did a much better job in attempting to compare filters... charts pulled from the video

nice stats and info and video provided. Ty

Installed the Decked bed storage system.

The Decked box arrived late yesterday so today was install day. Shout out to TogaLock77 for turning me onto a discount site plus free shipping. The box arrived perfect, no dents, dings or problems. Everything was inside, no missing parts. I ordered a lot of the accessory boxes since I got some money off. The install went well, it took a lot longer than I anticipated but then it always does. I purposefully took my time to make sure I didn’t put it in backwards the first time like I usually do !! I had to do a lot of nut and bolt installation for assembly, nothing too hard just tedious. The video from the company is a big help as well as entertaining.
