Exhaust

Hmm, yea.. The video I saw was a couple of dudes doing a driveway install, and the struggle seemed limited to getting the resonator + over-axle pipe over the axle itself. They ended up using a jack (in the wrong jack point) and were able to get it angled enough they could eek it over, but it seemed like that extra height from the ramps would make that one piece far easier.

That being said, I might just see if my local mechanic wants to install it for me instead. Frankly, the idea of trying to hold a heavy muffler in place with one hand while lining up isolators seems challenging without a second set of hands or a lift + jack like they had in your video. Was a solid video too, thx for posting it.
I use ratchet straps to hold things such as exhaust that aren’t too heavy but heavy enough to fatigue your arm or would be hard to hold + align. Hook it in holes on the frame and tighten it to raise it. Like a hammock.

That's a good idea - I definitely have a bunch of those kicking around. Though I'm now a bit more conflicted on account of your signature statement. ;)

Will noodle on it a bit more and then, if history proves accurate, just friggin buy it so I stop thinking about it haha
Let us help you, Buy It! Buy it! Buy it!

I selectively agree with something that is otherwise sedate and understated like a Range Rover or a car meant to blend into the herd like a beige Toyota Camry. Even a ram 1500 tungsten.
These trucks are lifted, enormous, giant aggressive grills, big lights bolted to the roof, monster truck size tires and even most have splashy graphics saying “power wagon” covering half the side. Short of an orange Lamborghini, it’s one of the loudest, most in your face vehicles for sale. A quiet exhaust on a power wagon is as out of place to me as a quiet muscle car. Though I’m sure they exist too.
Nice and quiet today, sneaking around elk mountains…four trucks in camp BTW, all Rams.
1500, TRX, a diesel 2500 and the PW.

Finally got around to ordering mine today from Summit. Borla direct was going to charge an extra $100, but thankfully shipping was free through Summit.

I had been waffling pretty hard between the Borla and the resonator delete to be honest. The resonator is a FAR cheaper option, but if (for some crazy reason) I didn't like it, I basically have no recourse to undo it short of buying another resonator, etc. So the Borla will go on, and the stock will hang in the basement for a while.. then I will either try to sell it for a pittance locally or just toss it eventually.

I bought mine on eBay. Free shipping and 100 off Summit's price.
Just did 300 miles round trip hauling 10K on the trailer.

Love it. Better fuel economy.
I’m starting to believe the no drone claims from borla. Haven’t heard anyone complain about it and I’ve been looking pretty thoroughly for a bad review.

However, I have a hard time believing the better fuel economy claim.

I sold my decked system and was planning on putting that money back on the truck with the borla but haven’t committed yet

I have the S-Type on my 2500. Love it.

For those that might install themselves…

Its super easy if you have a few items beforehand. WD40, muffler hanger pliers, and a deep socket (i think 15mm) was what was needed. Also I did mine with only 1000 miles or so on the truck so the stock exhaust came apart easily. A dead blow mallet might be of assistance if you have some years on the stock system.

I dropped my spare tire and it made things so much easier. I backed the truck up on 12k pound ramps and had plenty of space to work. I could sit under the rear. Make sure you chock the front tires for safety. After a day or two of driving, re check that everything is tight. Mine slipped back almost 3/4 of in inch two different times. I guess the heating caused expansion that allowed it to slip. I marked the joints with a sharpee after the second time ao that I could see if it slipped.

If you really want to hear something crazy, start that beast without a muffler! Its insane. Sounds like a damn nascar.

I dont know if its just wishful thinking but I swear the throttle response improved. It seems as the straight through muffler and removal of a resonator woke up the low end of the power curve.

Gas mileage dropped a bit when I first installed it. Only because the awesome sound makes you wanna get into the gas

Ide love to see a before and after dyno pull

Question for you Borla people… how much of the “no drone” is just the trucks noise cancellation?

Or is there also no drone with the windows down? (I assume the noise cancellation can’t work with the windows down)

The noise cancellation doesn’t get rid of AT tire hum but I can’t hear the trailers rattling around and normally trailers are noisy

@Rockcrawlindude

If by drone you mean a tooth rattling tone that feels like your head is gonna explode then there is none. If by drone you mean can you hear the exhaust, then yes you can hear it. It doesnt buzz or cause irritating frequencies. And with the windows open it sounds amazing, also no drone.

If you PM me an email address I will send you a video or two.

Yea annoying resonance or frequencies is what I mean

Got mine installed today, quite pleased. Shout out to @Rockcrawlindude for the ratchet strap idea, that worked great to keep the mufflers in place during fitting, etc.

I also fired it up briefly without any muffler - that'll wake up the neighbors! Sounded awesome.

With windows down it sounds great; rumbly, throaty, and when you goose it, it gets a little raspy/metallic, sort of like the exhaust note on some Mustang V8's. With windows up the exhaust note is muted, but definitely more present than it was with the stock system at anything but zero throttle. When coasting/zero throttle, it's basically silent as the old system was.

Similarly, on the highway it's noticeable in the cab (windows up). I am very aware of vehicle sounds (and in the house, as well), constantly listening for any sound that's out of place - sorta sucks to be honest, haha.. So I was listening acutely.. But it's not loud in the cab nor is it unpleasant, there's just a low rumble now when before it was very quiet (well, it was quiet after I ditched the Duratracs). I didn't spend much time on the highway, but varied the speed (mid-60's up to 80 or so) and the rumble didn't vary much. Truth be told, I've never experienced a true 'drone' with an exhaust that is known to cause them, but I did not notice any annoying frequencies or pitch shifting (apart from throttle related) or anything at all when MDS started. My MDS seems to rarely kick on on the highway, but in the few times it did around town, nothing really changed audibly from the exhaust, just the engine noise changes a bit.

If i had my druthers, I would have probably bought the Borla 'Touring' model, if they made one.... but they don't! So here I am. For now, I'm happy with it. Going to sleep on it for a few weeks (keeping my stock exhaust in the basement) but am 98% sure it's a keeper.

Haha .. it definitely feels like it could have a little more pep in it's step - but it's hard to say if that's caused by the machine or the man :)

A question for those who have the system installed and can run a tape measure real quick.

How long is this straight section of pipe here?
