Truck: 2020 Ram 2500 Power Wagon: Getting some wheel hop / shimmy in the front end. Dealer feels it on road test but cant figure out what it is. I talked with the parts guy at the dealer and he said based on seeing repair tickets he suspects it's a front wheel hub/bearing. Truck is under warranty but how do I get the dealer to diagnose? I would hate to have to make a repair on my own for something that should be covered by my warranty. How do I get Ram to help with this.

Jack it up and put a pry bar under the wheel and pick up on it. If it has slack you will be able to feel it. If it does, tell the dealer that the hub has slack in it. I just had to have one replaced at 24k miles. I do my own rotations and check for this and brake pads every time.

My truck was wearing the front tires perfectly. Couldn’t tell them from the rear wear wise. Had the right front hub replaced at almost 5k miles ago and now it’s rounding the outside corners on the front tires. I have almost 30k miles on the tires and they still look good but will probably change them out the start of next summer. I guess the bad hub was letting the tire deflect enough to put it in alignment. The truck does have a different feel to it.

Did you have it aligned to Thuren specs before the hub assembly was installed? Maybe the shop realigned it to factory specs.

It’s not been realigned that I know of. I was just thinking that it was weird that it hadn’t worn the tires before the hub replacement.

Finally found the problem... After having the dealer replace both front wheel hubs under warranty (YES THEY WERE BAD) the problem was still there. Now I have take the truck to two different dealerships for service 3 different times for the same issue and the all said they couldn't find the problem... I finally decided to tear it down myself and found the problem... it was the brakes. There is a defect in the front inner driver side brake pad. It has a deformation in the metal (not the pad material) that was sticking out further than the brake pad material. This was causing a constant contact point on the inside edge of the rotor. Keep in mind these are factory original pads and rotors. I advised the dealership and they claim Stelantis won't do anything for an issue like that. I think that's a terrible answer. Anyway, there you have it.... DEFECTIVE BRAKE PAD.

IIRC brake pads & rotors are only covered by a 12 months or 12,000 mile warranty so I'm not at all surprised by the answer you were given...

At least pads/rotors are easy to change. How many miles are on the truck? If your truck is a 2020 and we're 5+ years down the road, it isn't hard to believe it's time for an upgrade.

I get it man... but it still sux!! latent defect in a brake pad... and the dealer mechanics couldn't find it.. I'm calling BS on that!!
