Mopar hitch adapter

So I bought this adapter to reduce my hitch down to 2” for a tow dolly I will be towing in a week. I figured this would save me a few hundred dollars until I have a heavy load to pull. However, it’s not going as planned. This mopar unit will not slide all the way in. I ran a file on the inside of the receiver to knock off any small debris like weld splatter and possibly the ridge seam I could feel. But that didn’t help much. I can see scratches on the adapter where it binds up, so I’m pretty convinced the adapter is wider at this point even though I haven’t seen a considerable difference with my calipers and it looks pretty flat on my granite block. I’m going to get another one before I take this one to the belt sander for some extra clearance. Has anyone else experienced this before? IMG_9438.jpegIMG_9439.jpegIMG_9442.jpeg

The reducer that actually came with my truck has a little slop in it, maybe mines not a MOPAR.
I bought the truck brand new so who knows. I’ve seen plenty of folks say theirs never came with a reducer.
Strange.

Is that a cheapo (think Amazon no name)? From the pic it looks tight, like oversized. I use a Reese adapter for one of my hitches/Rock Tamers and it slides right in(easy fellas). I would start with trying another adapter.

It's a mopar unit

I'm going to stop at Tractor Supply tonight and see what they've got in stock. If it fits, I'll return the mopar unit.

I have the OEM and it isn’t nearly that long. Neither is the Curt adapter that the dealer installed with my hitch.

Edit: The Curt is 5.5” long and the OEM is 7” long.

I would have took a Flap disk and grinder and took all the paint off to see if you can get enough clearance. heck the last 2 rams I bought didn't even come with the adapter anymore.

I would also consider exchanging the Mopar one as another option to see if the issue is the receiver or the adapter.

Looks pretty much identical to the Mopar one that came with my 2022 (which was the same as the one that came with my 2018).

Tried another one from Tractor Supply last night and it fit, but was way too short. The pin hole wouldn't reach far enough. I considered drilling it, but chose otherwise. So I returned it before leaving the store. I'm going to put the mopar one on the belt sander and see how it goes.

The adapters I had didn't fit correctly either. Had to tap them in and get under the truck with a block of wood to remove them so I just ended up getting a 2.5" hitch with both 2' and 25/16" balls. The adapters must be a common issue for some reason. These same adapters fit the 2017 Silverado HD work truck I used to drive without issue.

If it works on other 2.5” hitches it sounds like it’s a truck issue and not an adapter issue.

Currently I don't know anyone with this size hitch. I saw one in the parking lot at work, but thought it might look suspicious touching another persons hitch that I don't know :p

I agree that’s the reason I posted getting the proper hitch to fit instead of using the adapters. Since my truck isn’t the only one with fitment issues, it must be a slight difference with the hitches they’re using vs the ones GM uses.

On our 2014 Ram 2500 using any of our different reducer sleeves it's always a loose fit, on our 2024 Ram 3500 they need some grease to ease the insert, and on our 2016 Ram 2500 they need a lot of grease plus pound them in with a rubber mallet. Takes some serious whacks from the inside with a steel dowel pin to get them to come out.

E-Trailer states to keep them stored secure out of the reach of children. Flying out onto street by driving off is not secure, but I've caught myself doing that.
