My son has had to replace the rear bumper on his truck. It is a painted bumper and he ordered an unpainted one and is trying to spray it himself to save money. He bought Duplicolor spray cans from O'Reilly's that are supposed to be the same as Ram's "bright white" and the color matches but the spray pattern is terrible. I don't think my old air compressor will run a HVLP gun and the project is too small to justify the expense of a new spray gun and compressor so I am looking for a recommendation on another brand of rattle can that you can get in factory colors that you have used that works well.

You can try the Turbo sprayer from Rustoleum...they make a gloss white - not sure if its a close match or not. People paint entire cars with it. AS long as you your compressor can do 30 psi it can handle a HLPV gun.

See if your local PPG auto paint store can hook you up with something...

I used Duplicolor when I whacked my truck, just spray it and lightly wet sand between coats, and be sure to use Duplicolor clear over it, any other brand clear and you’ll be starting over from scratch……. Don’t ask me how I know…IMG_3442.jpegIMG_3592.jpeg

Would love to hear a detailed method of how you achieved this. The wifey backed into the trailer when trying to hook up the trailer and chipped off the paint off the back bumper below the license plate. Figured a good cleaning, sanding, primer, duplicolor coats, clear coat and wet sanding should do the trick.

After getting as much of the dent out as I could by pulling the taillight and jamming a broom handle behind it, wet sanded the area really well, multiple coats of paint, wet sanding between each coat, then a final coat of color that didn’t get sanded to keep a consistent color. A couple days of letting the paint dry good then 2 coats of clear, let dry for a few days while I was at work, wet sanded lightly with 800 grit then buffed it out. The only thing I taped off was the bed rails, didn’t want any tape lines and was easier to fade the paint if it was slightly different. The biggest thing I can say is Don’t Rush…
