Brake Controller Troubleshooting/Technical Info

Hard to find competent help these days. You end up wearing out the truck driving to the dealership. LOL
Right, I mentioned at this point they owe me an oil change…

Ah I misunderstood I thought it was just the brakes.
The pulsing doesn’t surprise me. If you hook up a trailer you’ll hear the brake magnets clicking as the brake controller pulses them to detect when they’re connected.
I can report back that the brake Control switch under the radio fixed the issue. I now have trailer brakes and working lights!

So they must have all of that crap running through the brake controller on the 25s, more stupid designs to overcomplicate things

Yea they couldn’t just leave it alone and had to change everything…. I’m just glad they got it fixed. We leave for 3500 mile camping trip on Thursday. It would’ve been pretty difficult to pull that off without lights and brakes!

Well it does not stop some people! Lol

I recently purchased a 2025 Ram Rebel 2500 and went on our first camping trip this past weekend with it. When i connected the 7 pin to the truck, the first thing i noticed was the Light check feature initiated automatically. This may be by design but i thought from reading the manual that the this had to be user initiated in the Uconnect menu. I had the truck lights turned on and immediately when i pulled out my driveway, I received the “Trailer Break Disconnected” message followed by “Service Trailer Break System” and the constant dinging. This happened multiple times. I don’t believe i actually lost power to the breaks, which seems to be common in other posts. When i turned the truck lights off, i did not have anymore issues and once i turned the truck lights on again, immediately the messaged reappeared. Whenever i tried to cancel the Light Check feature, it would allow me to cancel for a few seconds and then started again automatically. I haven’t checked any of the trailer wiring yet (travel trailer is a 2025 as well) as I’m hoping this is a truck issue and have an appointment tomorrow with the dealership. I’ll provide an update after the dealership hopefully solves my issue.

It’s the trailer brake control switch located on your dash (that you can squeeze). Someone else had the same problem and I found a post from them. I contacted their dealership to see what the fix was and they said engineer showed up at their dealership to look at that truck and determined it was the trailer brake control switch. My dealership replaced it and it fixed my issue also.

I have exactly the same problem, let me know what they find. It can be a safety issue since when the message pops up you have no trailer brakes.

Just returned from the dealership and they are saying that everything is operating fine on my truck and could not recreate the issue. They said that it could be the trailer connector or the wiring on the camper. They said that service tech was saying that the wiring on the seven pin is different on the newer rams and in their experience, that tends to be the issue when they see this happen.

I hooked the trailer to a different truck same year and I had no problem. Then I hooked it to another truck and it had no issues as well.

Replaced the trailer plug today and still not working. My trailer running lights just flash and aren’t constant. Didn’t take it for a drive yet to see if the trailer disconnected message would appear. Just out of curiosity, checked the power on the truck connection and nothing on the running lights. Maybe that’s my problem. Back to the dealership, at least this time I have more information to question how they were able to test everything successfully last week

Anyone having problems switching from light to heavy braking? 22 3500. Stuck on light tow and towing 16k 5th wheel. Checked fuses all good.

Dealership confirmed today there is a problem, but doesn’t seem they know exactly what the problem is or what is causing it. They were able to identify similar issues on a tech bulletin and reached out to an engineer who asked for information on my trailer. Sounds like a power issue with the lighting as he was asking about whether the trailer has LED or incandescent lighting, which I’m almost certain the lighting is all LED.

At this point, I’m being told that engineering is working on it and there is not a solution as of now. I’m going to press on this more when i pick up the truck and will keep the group updated until it gets resolved.

How did you manage to get the dealer to change out the controller? I tested my trailer lights today on ky new Ram 2500 and they blink intermittently, turn off then back on. I’ve only had this truck two days

How did you convince the dealer to do this. My truck has the same issue but they won't fix it without some service bulletin telling them they have to. Any Dodge dealers names numbers?

I had this same issue and kept going around with my dealer. I had my travel trailer in the shop for warranty work so I wasn't pushing the issue with Ram.

Well I picked up the trailer last Friday and the lights started doing their thing. BUT this time I could cancel it and drove home with my light control on Auto and no flashing lights or break disconnect notices. I did a check for a system update a few weeks ago so maybe that fixed the issue.
