2021-2025 6.7 “Engine Ticking” TSB Released

O so it’s not an oil additive. Ridiculous, mine honestly sounds like a waste gate rattle of some type until the engine warms a min or two then it’s gone

6.7’s don’t have waste gates.

Good to know. Definitely right side. Could be hearing the tick through the exhaust. I’ll update on what they say. I started a thread and it’s got a link to the video with the sound.

They will most likely tell you the same as I was told after TSB aligning AC belt ect "there is no known fix at this time" or in plain words ya have to wait until its out of warranty

Interesting. Too coincidental that it started immediately following first oil change at 6k miles. Was told it’ll go away now at 8k still there but only cold start which is relative considering it’s summer in az. Last a few minutes then goes away.

Many miles after I went to Amsoil best 5w40 the noise level started to go down and its now intermittent ( I have stopped constantly listing to see if it still there as it gets me Po'ed when i hear it and the wife hates it when i get in that mood) I have never noticed it at start up, it mostly shows up after a shut down an restart...

There isn’t anything valve train wise on the passenger side to make noise relative to the first oil change.
Well, just got a call set. The truck is ready. Did a transmission relearn for the hard shifting and supposedly it’s the DPF injector that I’m hearing at start up.

Mine was on the passenger side and when they first pulled the valve cover they found 4 bad pushrods and rockers

Have you checked to see if it is an exhaust leak causing the tick? Manifold and turbo flange are fairly common. Is the tick consistent and gets faster as RPM’s rise?

The tick is not consistent, normally ticks when cold and first started last a couple mins. I pulled into the driveway today and it was ticking after an hour or so of driving. Crawled under the truck to hear if it’s actually a the def injector like I was told. While you can hear the injector it’s faint and not at all what I’m hearing. I’ve done a lot of work myself on an old 6.0 powerstroke. Needless to say I’m not clueless and the dealer seems to think so. Below is the link to a start and the sound

My noise was super pronounced in park with quick jabs at the throttle to about 1500-1700rpm especially on decel. My buddies 2024 2500 was consistent with the rpms bumped up using the cruise control buttons in park.

Well I guess I could take a look, on one hand I didn’t buy a brand new truck to do diagnostics myself. But the tapping is towards the rear of the engine block not the front. It’s also tough because it doesn’t do it consistently it’s only really during the first started of the day.

Another video from today. Getting worse, at operating temp in az 115 degree day.

Took to another dealer and they said no way was it a DEF injector.

This is the updated info for the North American market:View attachment 87558

I was talking to my local SM and from what I took away from that talk, this star case my prevent my dealer from investigating my engine noise that another SM said sounds like either HVL adjuster(s) and or lifter problem that it needs to be looked in to asap, I but do not know if he was aware of the above star case when he suggested it get looked at asap...

My 23 is going to the shop tomorrow for this same tick. Mine only happens after the engine gets up to temp, & only at high idle. Cold starts sound fine at both low & high idle.
Word on the street it’s lifter alignment pins that are the wrong spec and the bore a bigger hole in the block which then needs to be replaced. This is the reason new cam and lifters doesn’t fix the issue. Likely why they went back to cast iron and kept hydraulic lifters because they weren’t actually the issue the block was.

Have any of you guys watched the Ram master tech channel on youtube? Truck Stuff. He has found every truck he had to diagnose for the ticking noise’s cause. Its a variety of things he found, the latest was sticky rockers, very interesting stuff.
