Can I get service at a dealer to refresh the transmission?

Is that even possible? I’ve gotta take it in for Service and was just going to ask them if they could reset it or whatever it’s called? Where it will relearn my driving habits? If that even truly exist? Just having a little bit of inconsistencies with it. Just wondering if that something they can do or will do o r no chance.

What year and engine do you have?

You can do it yourself with JScan for sure, and probably AlfaOBD as well so before you pay too much, check into that.

Alfaobd can put it in quick learn as well as any decent bidirectional scan tool. I've never used Jscan.

I’m still u see warranty. That’s why I was going to ask.

I can't speak for the dealer. They may do it if you claim a driveability issue. Or, they might drive it, say it's fine and do nothing. (shrug)

If you walk in and say you want it done "just because" you're probably going to have to pay.

It doesn't learn driving habits, more of your transmissions specific clearances and tolerances, as well as the engines small inaccuracies of engine torque.

Can you explain more what inconsistency you're experiencing? A relearn might not necessarily fix your issue depending on what it is. More info is needed.

It’s just clunky at times. Even at holding speeds at like 45 miles an hour or any speed really. Sometimes just kind of has a little bit of a clunk. Maybe that’s the nature of a 2500. It is my first. I know it’s not a smooth riding Cadillac, but sometimes it just feels like it should be a tad bit smoother holding gears. I do have 35 inch tires on though.

Getting up to speed and letting off gas seems to be consistently clunky. Not awful. Just not smooth.

I feel that in my ‘21 at times. Not the smoothest.

For comparison I have a ‘25 F250 with the 7.3/10spd ext cab work body truck that I daily. It’s a beast of a truck so far. That engine/trans combo work quite well together. For an XL it has just enough tech/goodies to make a decent work truck.

Normally it should not clunk when shifting. If you're confident it does it while shifting, a relearn may help, but isn't guaranteed to fix any gross hardware issue. It should be possible for the dealer or whatever tool you use to tell you the re-learned adapted values: boost time offset and stroke pressure offset for each clutch.

Typically I'd expect a tip in/out to clunk mostly from the u-joints, but I don't want to point the finger too soon.

Hmm.. have you updated the computer for the tire size? My PW behaved a bit similar to this when I got my 35's on but hadn't updated the computer to the new tire size. It was holding gears longer than it had before, and shifts could occasionally be a little clunky.

Mine seemed to even out/normalize once I updated the tire size. Could be something else going on, of course, but if you haven't reprogrammed for tire size, I would give that a shot too.

When i feel the transmission is off with hard downshifts or weird delayed shifts, i disconnect the battery, turn ON the headlights and wait about 10 minutes. Does the trick for me and Ill do it about once or twice per oil change. I've also complained to the dealership a few of times about the transmission issues when doing other services just so i have a paper trail.
But now all of it disappeared around 20,000 miles and its still smooth at 70,000 miles. I did do a transmission fluid and filter change at 50K.

Where did you purchase the good for the trans fluid swap and how much did that run yah? Planting a new money tree and need to know how many seasons I have to save lol.

I purchased the factory Mopar filter and fluids from Amazon.
Pan/filter $305
7 qts of fluid for $105.

Also bought a cheap $7 bottle fluid pump.
I did a quick search online for instructions and was able to knock it out in my driveway.

I’m thinking in 30k miles, I’ll do a drain and fill only.
