BCM Wiring Harness Ripped (Check your harness)

Well this sucks, my BCM wiring harness ripped. All my gauge cluster lights came on saying service everything while I started driving on Saturday including wipers turning on and flashers not working. I just purchased this RAM used back in November 2024 and from what it seems like this has been rubbing up against the parking brake for some time. Went to the dealership and wouldn't cover for warranty since I'm already past the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty. Im surprised the dealership said they would charge $650 (to repair not change out the harness) when they were going to charge me $1500 to change out the coolant reservoir and a flush. I bought the reservoir for $200 at dealer and replaced it myself within 20 minutes. Moved the wires and the vehicle is driving again and everything functions but still scared to have this open like that. Called Ram Care customer service number as well to try and explain the situation but they just cut me off and asked "are you trying to get a hold of service?". Sorry guys just venting here but it sucks once you obtain your dream truck and having problem after problem within 6 months. I would suggest checking your harness if you have a manual pedal parking brake. If you look in the driver side right above the parking brake there should be a zip tie with a clip that is supposed to be clipped to the BCM.

Where did you buy the truck? That wire(if its the same one on mine I was looking at) is clipped in at the BCM and I cant see how it would reach the down to the parking brake - $650 might be good deal to have them fix it. Not sure how involved replacing that harness vs repairing labor wise.

What year truck and miles? I would not want to drive it like that very long.

Yeah I thought it was a good deal as well but my rear window just broke too so im on a budget now .
But yeah there is a clip that attaches the wiring harness to the BCM it just wasnt attached. I bought it from a small dealer though. I may end up just doing the work myself basicalky just gotta match the colors and I think some TICONN butt connectors with solder in em may work nicely.

I think its pretty labor intensive if I did replace the harness though.
 
The wife hit something with her Grand Cherokee. Right behind the front passenger wheel. Whole dash was lit up surprised it was still running. Took about 3 hours to mend it up, be sure to keep twisted pairs twisted as well as Possible.

If you’ve ever done any soldering in your life, it’s very simple to repair those damaged wires. If not find a buddy that used to do it or an old ham radio guy and pay them and whatever favourite beverage they prefer.

Follow the example above, use good quality solder lead and tin with rosin flux core, stay away from the new crap they sell these days it’s not designed to last and is a bugger to solder. Just don’t forget to put the heat shrink on before you twist and solder lol!
 
I wonder if some underdash work was performed which pulled the clip out of the mount, perhaps during installation of a tracking device.

That picture you included of the cut wires, had you already cut those and cleaned up the ends?

They have these bad boys now that combine the solder and heat shrink together. Just put them on and hit it with a heat gun. Shrinks the tubing and melts the solder in one go.

That picture you included of the cut wires, had you already cut those and cleaned up the ends?
The cut wires picture is how it arrived! She must have hit some kind of sheet metal to make that nice clean cut for me
 
That is a great idea I will have to get some of those . I take it they are made by Powerworx?
I actually bought some TICONN brand but similar stuff. Worked out well. I struggled all night with the parking brake getting the cable back on but worked out well i gotta go back in there and wrap them in tape or protection sleeve together though just to be extra safe.

Excellent work. Too many are afraid to do this type of repair. It's not difficult, just a bit tedious and you gotta take your time to do it right.
