Approaching the two month mark of my truck being in the body shop as yet another estimated date of completion has come and gone. This time they are claiming the front camera (grill) failed calibration and has to be replaced.
I've got 360° view - no lane keeping or automatic cruise control. The body shop replaced the grill and says that when the grill is replaced calibration of the front camera is required. Apparently my camera, which appeared to be working fine when I took the truck in, failed calibration so they have ordered a new camera and bracket.
Is this a thing or are they making stuff up? I can't see how a working camera can fail any calibration nor how replacing the camera itself could be the solution.
I can understand having to AIM the camera, but anything more complicated than that just doesn't seem right to me.
Am I wrong or does something seem fishy?

The camera for the lane keeping system is in the mirror mount.
Exactly. And I didn't have the windshield replaced either.
That was my point - the only camera calibration that makes sense to me is for lane keeping and ACC which don't apply to me.

Got a call a few hours ago that they installed the new camera in the grill and it passed calibration so I guess that’s a thing after all.

360° camera calibration is a thing, regardless of ACC.

My front camera is a little off/wonky and I'm tempted to recalibrate, though I do also have ACC.

I've been driving our 2005 Toyota 4Runner for the past two months while my truck was in the shop. I got my truck back today and it was like driving a brand new vehicle! It was so quiet, smooth and soft riding. Despite having a V6 the Toyota doesn't have enough power to get out of it's own way and the fuel mileage really stinks compared to my truck. It's noisy and rides really rough, being a body on frame - essentially an enclosed Tacoma. No cameras, no USB, no BT, just cassette, CD and AM/FM and though it does have something like 10 JBL speakers it doesn't sound nearly as good as my truck's OEM Alpine.
I had a still in the wrapper OEM block heater cable under the back seat to install but somebody made off with that. The body shop is supposed to replace it but who knows how long that's going to take.
Wore myself out taking the Curt A20 slider out of the bed and putting it in storage. Now that I have the Reese Goose box I've got to hook up to the truck in the next few days to make final adjustments and torque everything down. I've got a bedroom air conditioner for the camper arriving tomorrow and since we have a very steep driveway I always feel safer up on the roof when I have the camper connected to the truck.
Other than that, just thrilled to death to have my truck back!
