Ive been searching extensively for some cool mods as options for the faux hood scoop. Something like an led bar, or heck....why not make it real?

I figure someone has to have come up with something cool. If not, there is probably money to be made on the creation of a high quality, simple DIY bolt on kit. It could really reduce the number of times you get asked the question: "Is that thing real?".20241013_140935.jpg

Well, yes. If you don't have the scoop, I'm not suggesting you pay 3 grand to swap out your regular hood. But since I have it, why not get something out of it. I would measure mine for a light bar due to ease and simplicity. But if there were a bolt in solution that could seal up to the air box, that would be awesome! Maybe make it like the one on Kit (of Knight Rider fame).

To your point, I didn't get the cubic zirconia wedding ring for the wife. I don't like politicians. And I will never eat the "impossible whopper". Cuz fake sucks!
 
I've made 2 RAM hoods functional over the years. One was a ~04 ram, where the OEM scoop is totally fake, just bolts to a normal hood. Cut a hole under the fake scoop, it was only for venting, not intake. I modified a Venom style hood to be functional. The center scoop would feed air to a aftermarket engine top intake. The sides vents set up to extract hot air. That scoop made noticeable difference in performance. I could feel the difference when racing. Example, if a high pressure dense air pocket, the truck would gain speed. At speed it would pull harder.

There is an aftermarket intake that fits these trucks, it looks " 70's" as it has an oval exposed filter. It is designed to get cool air from the front between the hood and rad support. That design can be modded to get air from above, such as a hole in the hood.

Personally, unless your rocking a 426 stroker and mainly racing, I don't think I'd do it. Need to view it from a full systems stand point. Without the supporting mod's, it won't be worth it. And rain / water is a concern, there are ways to work around that. But why add risk on a 4X4?

If not a functional hood, then maybe something like the TRX LED's? I think it would look good with all the other styling the power wagon has. Also, have you seen how GM's functional hood works? It's not as simple as one would think. It even has a special drain for water/debris.

Yes, a light is a lot easier then an intake. My only hold up on that is that marker lights in that area are Raptor-esque. I ain't trying to be a Raptor fan boy. Jk.
 
I want to kick the cool kids ax's. (By being the guy that has to go tow their little toys out when they get stuck. In the event one of them actually takes their pavement princesses out to get her boots dirty).
 
Was out at Pismo dunes in my K5 Blazer I built for such things. Had just got there so its still loaded down with camping gear. Guy comes over and ask me if I could pull him out. Said sure. Drive over and there sits his Bronco and trailer stuck in the sand. Told him to get in. Hooked up the Blazer and towed his Bronco and trailer up thru the sand and back down to the hard packed beach while still fully loaded.
Sure wish I would have had the wife video it now.

I may not be rocking the 426 stroker, but when this 392 Hemi gets hungry, I let it eat! And it has an insatiable appetite!$$

So, lightning in the fake scoop prevents you from doing that? Chrome don’t get ya home. Build a beefy truck and it doesn’t matter.

I dont know if you know the power wagon, but it starts as a "beefy truck". No input needed. But my scoop is an imposter. It ain't gonna change the capabilities of the vehicle(unless i find a way to make it a snorkel). Wow,, your snarky comment led to a great idea! I owe it all to you. Thanks!
