Now that I'm back in a Ram, whats the general consensus on additives? Ive always used optilube but just not sure how necessary it is these days. Thanks !

The “Oil Geek” has a couple of interesting Youtube videos on lab tests of diesel additives.

Day to day additives aren’t needed for these engines.

There are some additives that may help under certain operating conditions.

Archoil 6400d does a great job of DPF cleaning at regular intervals if you’re not towing all the time.

Cetane additive can help starting and low temp/low load combustion ( I use this in winter for slow speed driving on back roads for extended periods)

Anti-gels are a good idea when you don’t know the winterization level of the fuel or are going somewhere colder than the fuel is winterized for.

Can’t hurt to run an injector cleaner every now and then.

Personally I like Amsoil All-In-One in the winter or injector clean in the summer.

This at a minimum.

The Archoil 6400 seems to be doing well for most.

Thanks ! Looks like I will get some Archoil and just use it at regular intervals then . Just wasn’t sure if I needed day to day lubricity

Day to day not needed with the current HPFP.

Lubricity was really just a concern for us 19-20 guys with the CP4 before the recall.

The 22 guys with regen issues were mostly seeing some improvement with regular use of 6400 and 6500, but it's really just a bandaid for the underlying issue.

Assuming a 2025, but you haven't filled out your sig or provided any info to indicate what truck.

Sorry about the signature , yes 2025 6.7. I was a Cummins guy my whole life and tried a ford and happy to be back ! They are having their fair share of HPfP issues so I always ran their additive . Glad to know I don’t need it every time . I’m loving the idea of the 6400 every 5k miles!

Any idea what it is? My '22 has been a nightmare. Less than 10k miles since they finally replaced the DPF and I'm back to 50 mile regens.

Prior they have replaced the air box, MAF, differential pressure sensor, complete DEF system, some software update and DPF. Now the engine makes an odd rattling noise under heavy load nobody can figure out.

Couple this with a replacement BCM, ECM, radio, amplifier, LED taillight, trailer brake controller and some other sundry parts and this vehicle has spent more time in the shop than all vehicles combined I've ever owned. That's saying something, I'm 72, owned a Vega and two Suburbans. lol

Have a '21 1500 with 50k that's never seen a shop and a '22 Scat pack, the same. What happened with the heavy duties? I'm so gun shy I'm not sure I want to take a chance with another RAM to replace this one when warranty is almost done.
