Sirius Radio Signal Trash

so... not to be that guy, but living about 20 miles north of @brutal, mine works just fine. the only time that it hiccups is when I pull into my garage, and some of the really deep canyons that we drive through ( 72 / 6 / 285). I use it all the time, and will probably be purchasing a subscription when my 1 year trial runs out. if mine works and his doesn't, maybe a hardware or software issue??

Could be. My 12" hasn't updated since I took it home 3/10/20. 19.43.1a

Hmmm......picked mine up 03/06/20 and my 12" software version is 20.04.19. I'm not aware of any updates unless it did it while parked.

I have to agree that the sat radio in my 2020 is the worst I have had. This is my 5th vehicle with SiriusXM and the signal drops out passing under every tree limb. I've had (have) 3 Jeep Grand Cherokees and a '15 Chevy 3500 diesel dually and none of them dropped the sat radio signal coming down the same road. This one drops out so much you would think it stutters.
Reception on my truck sucks.
I was on the fence about paying for service but definitely not going to happen with this reception quality.
Had it on my last truck I dont miss it.

Please let us know via private message if you decide to have your dealer look into this. We would like to have this documented and have a case escalated on your behalf so a Case Specialist can work with your dealer to help find a potential solution.

2020 Ram 3500, Same here cuts in and out multiple times while driving. My 2012 Ram had no issues with XM, gets annoying to say the least

Okay, I guess I had been lucky so far. But not any longer... It does cut randomly often, to a point where it is unusable.

Did a quick search on google about this issue. Looks like many cars have this problem.

I found this guy describe pretty much the same thing I read here where his XM reception is awful but it works perfectly in his wife's car.

But he did fixed it... by changing the antenna...

So... crappy antenna on a 80K truck!

@jerrryw1000: any issues with your XM service?

Well....it drops out a lot more than any of the other 4 vehicles I have had with SiriusXM. Seems like any tree limb makes it blip out. It's like these radios do not have any buffer. Tree limbs, bridges, any momentary obstruction. My other radios have a buffer that prevents momentary drop outs. I don't think this one does. Other than that it is fine under clear blue skies. :)

Since this seems to be a fairly common problem, wouldn't it be nice if Ram figured it out and issued a TSB? I don't have the time to make multiple trips to the dealer 45 miles up the road and sit around all day to be told "we don't see...or can't find...the problem". Trying for force a solution for these kinds of issues from the low point on the crap stick is difficult if not impossible.

They won't. This is to keep switching channels feel almost instantaneous. Otherwise, you would have to wait for the buffer to fill each time you change to a new channel which would be annoying.
Simple logic to fix, only enable buffering after being on a channel for greater than 60 seconds.

The problem is missed signals. So buffering would not solve anything. It is not a handshake situation with data packets verified and acknowledged. So the interrupted signal is lost.

Along with poor FM reception my Sirius/Xm is the ****s too. I called Sirius a week ago and the agent said she would escalate my case. I never heard back from them.
I may be wrong but from years back when Sirius and XM were separate companies Sirius bought out the competition, XM.
Back then I was told that XM Satellites were lower on the horizon than the Sirius satellites and as such would experience signal issues more so than Sirius in the same locations.
So what I understood is XM works fine in wide open spaces but Sirius is better in the mountains or where trees line the roadways.
I asked the Sirius agent on the phone about it but she had no idea of what I was talking about.

I live in the far north at 64 degrees. My 09 ram had Sirius and I had no dropouts. In around 2013 they switched the Rams to XM and everyone up here including me with 2013 and up trucks have dropouts mostly driving north and north east/west. On a recent road trip I took my boombox radio which is the older Sirius Roadster radio with the same type magnetic antenna like in the video above and I didn't have one dropout on a 1000km trip. XM radio sucks thats all there is to it, I won't be renewing my sub. My wifes 2016 Silverado gets similar dropouts but not as much as my 2019 HD.

Yea the XM reception in my 2019 sucks also, forever cutting out, skipping, etc. My wife hates when I listen to XM with her in the truck because the skips drive her nuts, and she says the XM reception is much better in her 2018 Equinox.

I talked with dealer today same trouble. Of course they say they never heard of the issue before......have to drop it off to start investigation. Someone knows they have a bad antenna installed on all these probably. My 2017 1500 whole different style.
