Exhaust brake engaging at Idle

ive noticed on my '25 that on two separate occasions, the truck would engage exhaust brake while at idle as if it was warming up on a cold start. Engine would be at or near normal operating temp 189-192F with a low 60F ambient air temp. at a stop the truck would engage exhaust brake at normal idle RPM until I started moving and it would go away. Would re engage at the next stop light. dealer said they couldn't duplicate the issue and there was seemingly no updates for this. has happened on 2-3 separate occasions in the 1,000 miles ive owned the truck. Any one experience this?

Aside from real cold starts (40F and below) my '19 never engaged the exhaust brakes like this.

Possible regen or a new strategy with the aftertreatment
 
Are you talking about it kicks in to high idle? I am not sure the EB can or would engage at idle as it needs back pressure created with the trans and engine working together.

I know on my 2024, I can hear the fan roar at times during driving - doesn't seem to be on a cold starts all the time. Its usually when driving not at idle however.

no, it's not kicking it into high idle. The truck is even in drive when this is happening. on my '19 it used to do it when it was below 40F even in drive. But it's doing this in 60 degree weather while the engine is at full operating temperature so im very confused whats going on. As super Joe mentioned, it could be a regen thing? Since it's only done this twice, the dealer can't replicate the problem either.
 
I suspect is a normal function for exhaust temps, possibly even out of regen mode.

Are you talking about it kicks in to high idle? I am not sure the EB can or would engage at idle as it needs back pressure created with the trans and engine working together.

The EB can, and does, engage at idle. It’s not driven of the EB button like previous generation thou and is 100% ECM controlled for warmup and heat retention for regen.
 
If you are hearing it kick in at idle with the truck warmed up in warmer temps then the truck is doing a regen. It will regen just driving around town now. My older Truck started doing it after I had to take it in for a reflash. It was a required reflash due to emissions and changed the regen strategy.

Which recall was that?
 
I don't think it was a recall per se. I was in California and was mailed a notice and it said it was mandatory and you could not renew the registration without it.

Still sounds like a recall. You should have something annotating what it was labeled as.

That sound like the DPF sensor which was on backorder and Ram was allowed to ship new trucks without it, but it had to be installed when available or the trucks reg could not be renewed when renewal time came up.

That was the Y43 recall, but that recall had zero impact on regens or regen strategy. The PM sensor simply monitors for a failed/cracked DPF allowing soot to pass thru.
