We have a 2016 Ram 2500 Heavyduty SLT. I am looking at getting an 2025 artic fox 811. The hubby has always wanted a cabover camper, and I wanted to get that done for him. I know Artic Fox is the best. We do need one that does have a slide out. Everything I see online says to have either a 2500 or 3500. I just want to see if anyone here has any suggestions. Not going to buy a new truck. lol. Thanks everyone!

that camper would be heavy with the dry weight On a 2500 at 2800lbs. Then when you have your gear and are loaded up you will be quite a bit heavier. You at least need a set if airbags to be comfortable. Is the truck gas or diesel?

Gas

If you post a photo of the weight related numbers on the drivers door area, we can help you estimate what is possible and why.

If it’s got a slide you are beyond the load capacity of a 2500 and likely pass it on a SRW 3500.

The dry weight is Dry Weight: 2873 pounds. Also you can count on adding another 1,000 pounds for your gear, propane, food, water and batteries.

Gas is actually not bad with that weight and even loaded up you should be within the GAWR

How would they be below their GAWR it looks like Ram says 6390 is the max GAWR per the below link.

My HEMI 2500 with a Rambox empty rear axle is at 3280 so that plus estimate of 3873 for the loaded camper equals 7153. Now I know the Rambox is a bit heavier than the standard box, but not +750 pounds.

I said add 1,000 pounds to the dry weight as a minimum addition weight, but it is likely even more.

The weight is spread to both axles since its not directly on the rear axle only it is also in front of the axle.

That’s true I forgot to mention that, but more is on the rear axle.

Our 1999 Lance 915 had a dry weight of about 1800 pounds. However, in actual use and ran over scales it was almost always at 3000 or over that by a far amount.

The SRW k3500 CC long bed handled, but it had leaf springs vs the in board coils of a +2014 Ram 2500. The result is likely lots more sway, but to each his own.

In doing your research, be aware that the dry weight of the 811 (or any Northwood camper) is not accurate. Arctic Fox plays some numbers games. There is a required option (oxymoronic) Fox Value Package of $6300 and 595 pounds, pushing the dry weight up to 3400 and some. Don’t get me wrong it is a well equipped rig, just quite a bit heavier than you probably think. Their (Truckcampermagazine) estimate of the wet weight is around 4500 lbs. but they overestimate in my opinion by having full water, propane, 2 lead acid batteries, and 500 lbs of your stuff.

I would urge you to look around truckcampermagazine.com for more information.

Enjoy truck camping, we sure do!

A set of bags cures that. But in no way am I saying its the ideal setup but they can do it without killing anything or anybody

I agree with you and at between 3,500 and 4,000 pounds that’s likely way past 2500 territory and really in dually range.
