So just bought a 2019 2500 with 75717 miles on it have all the service records on it. so right before I purchased it at the RAM dealership they changed the oil and filter with 10W30 as it was in GA and they only replaced the Primary fuel filter the one in the engine bay not the chassis one. They did the cabin and main air filters as well as the CCV filter. The previous owner had it in at 75051 miles for the leather on the dash wrinkling(WTF) and they goodwill replaced the whole dash for him and removed and replaced the instrument panel. When he was there it was recommended he do:

1. Brake Fluid exchange
2. 4x4 driveline service
3. Cabin Air filter
4. Replace DEF Filter
5. Replace Chassis and engine fuel filters

He responded that these would be done elsewhere for all of the above. Being that the dealership when he traded it in 666 miles later they had to do a lot of that stuff I'm not feeling warm and fuzzy he did the rest of it. He was anal about bringing it in for regular oil changes alternating between 10w30 and 5w40 and tire rotations. He did have 15w40 Rotella put in it at 31929 miles why I don't know as it even states its a pre-2019 diesel oil change on the dealer records. Over the next 2 weekends I'm going to do a trans filter service and drain on it as that was never shown as having been done already have the parts and gasket on the way from Geno's. I'm also going to change the chassis fuel filter as I'm wondering why the dealership only changed the Primary and I doubt the previous owner changed it but not the primary. So a few questions:

A. I plan to do the drive line service on it as this shows as never having been done got AMSOIL 75w85 Severe Duty coming for the diffs an I'm guessing Valvoline ATF +4 could work in the transfer case or do I have to use the MOPAR oil? I have the MOPAR 4yr/48000 Maxcare Drivetrain warranty on it

B. Being that the truck is in NJ now and we are expecting windchills of -1 next week or below should I dump the brand new 10w30 the dealership in GA put in and swap with Mobil Delvac One ESP 5w40 or just keep it moving with what I have now.

C. Simple and easy way to do the brake fluid exchange?

D. I looked and I can find nothing on any user serviceable parts on the DEF system. What the hell was the dealership talking about?
Thanks in advance for any help or assistance.IMG_3399.jpg

15w-30??

I would get fuel filters from Geno’s garage and swap them out.

Windchill is immaterial to temp for engine oil, only ambient temp matters. 5w-40 is a better hot and cold oil, but unless you expect to see a bit of below 0°F weather and can’t plug it in I wouldn’t bother changing it out until the next change.

Amsoil ATF is what I have in my transfer case. It has the BW part number on the bottle.

There isn’t a serviceable DEF filter.

I am questioning the 15W30 as well. Also agree that 10W30 is fine for as long as winter is going to last. Not going to be that cold from here on in. And anyone that dumped 15W40 in it at 38K should be shot.

If you have a air compressor you can pick up a pneumatic fluid exchanger for about $30 at Harbor Freight. Just follow the instructions easy to do .

So I’m gonna use Valvoline ATF +4 for the transmission service. I was going to use Amsoil ATF but saw a lot of threads on a lot of forums saying that while amsoil is great for a lot of things don’t put it in an ATF +4 transmission.

That’s the first I’ve heard that, it’s great ATF fluid.

I was going to use it but when I googled Amsoil ATF there are a bunch of forum threads for oil in general and different RAM truck forums where it’s almost a 50/50 split on yea or nay. The argument I guess is on the fact that they are not ATF +4 certified the company recommends that it meets or exceeds the spec but no independent testing by API or other bodies I am guessing. I’m gonna use it for my transfer case though and most other fluids including oil at the next change.

Ya forgot to pay them to do so  I only pay my dealer to change the back one, I change the one under the hood being being its easy and I don't have to lay on wet pavement nor worry about being caught by the HOA ;)
It wasn’t me. The dealership changed the one fuel filter when it was traded in. They only have the part number on the work order for the engine bay filter not the chassis one. He may have done both and just put the one on his WO but I’m not taking the chance already have the chassis filter taking it to the shop on Sunday to put it on and do the driveline service and flush and fill the brake fluid. Transmission pan gets done weekend after new filters, fluid, and Mishimoto trans pan.

Anybody know off hand the torque specs for the differential drain and fill plugs as well as the drain and fill plugs for the transfer case? Torque spec for the 10mm diff cover bolts?

I think it’s 25ftlbs on the engine drain plug and that should be enough for the diffs but the TC uses tapered pipe threads and the TC can actually be cracked by over tightening those plugs. I use teflon tape on those and just snug them up. Haven’t had any leaks.
