Does anyone get results with Ram Cares on this forum? We bought a new 2023 5500 and the transmission and the transfer case went out at 6K miles. Ram covered the repair, it just took over 60 days, but did get it fixed. Our problem now, is they totally have gone silent on the $ 1400 tow bill. Anyone have some in site or should I just go back to Chevy?
My truck went down for collectively a month at 7,500KM with def issues, mine is also a 5500 and one of my primary sources of income "welding truck". Had to get a rental because it went into de-rate several times. Paid roughly 2500$ in rental fees over that time. Ram wouldn't cover the rental fees because i didn't OPT for the additional warranty/insurance during pickup. The dealership finally figured the issue out and the truck was good after that. But they did as little as humanly possible to attempt to exceed my expectations. After buying a 110k truck i sort of expect a dealership to go above and beyond but nope. I argued with ramcare about the rental vehicle but they wouldn't budge, they did say they would note on my file that i was "unhappy" with my experience. Cool.
at 72,000KM the def tank pump/heater went out during a cold snap. truck de-rated. So called the dealership..... parts are 2 weeks away somehow and they cant get me in for a MONTH, there answer was to just park it until my appointment came up and then they'd tow it in. Called around to other dealerships up to two hours away and still 2-3 weeks out to change a bloody def pump. Call my buddy who owns a heavy equipment/diesel mechanic shop and tell him the issue, he says give me 5 min and ill call you back. He had the parts that evening and installed the pump for me over the weekend. He cleared my codes which allowed me to drive until the weekend so i wasn't down at all.
Chat with the dealership to hopefully just get my parts covered under warranty for the pump replacement, NOPE! wont cover the cost of parts, labor, and i don't have warranty on the parts even though there Genuine MOPAR parts. Needed to be installed by a high school kid at a ram dealership in order to qualify for warranty coverage. Some people dont like the option of waiting a month for a simple job that takes 2 hrs.
So to answer your question, does Ram care? no... Does Ford or GM have better service? not likely. But the fact were all spending 100k plus on these trucks, the service side of things is ATROCIOUS, its a battle to keep these diesel trucks on the road in the winter.
i totally understand that things break down, but to me its the quality of service that speaks volumes especially for those in business. When my truck went down i wasn't offered a vehicle to drive, i wasn't offered for my payments to be covered while i was down for a month, no free oil changes. Nothing whatsoever. Almost like i was a massive inconvenience to them.
A GOOD example of exemplary service, i run a big blue 400 pipe pro on my truck great machine, 35k machine. Had a board failure at 2000 hrs...... i called my dealer and told them the issue and they told me to show up within the hr. Drive into the parking lot and there waiting outside with the forklift to pick the machine off my truck, without even asking he drives back out of the building with a brand new vantage 400 and puts it on my truck.... and says this is your machine until we get this one fixed. They had it full of fuel and ready to go to work, i was down for maybe a grand total of 1.5 hrs. THAT is service. and guess where i spend ALL of my money for welding consumables, machines, gas, and wouldnt consider going anywhere else.
For myself, i still think RAM has the best product out there, but its to the point where all 3 are so close it makes it hard to not shop around. I have about 1.5-2 years left on this truck before i trade it in. But ill likely at the very least consider Ford next time as well.
