Frame holes taped up instead of doing it right.

Was under the truck and noticed a bunch of oval holes stamped into the inside of the frame. Chrysler being the cheapskates that they are covered them all with tape which is starting to come off. No surprise. Has anyone found a plug that will fit these holes? Almost a 100K for a truck and they use masking tape. Disgusting. Thanks folks.

I've never seen a truck manufacturer do anything more than that. Every truck I've been under has either had tape, or nothing at all. In fact, Dodge used to just leave them open too, so at least they do something to try to keep stuff out now.

If they took the time to tape them up, they could have at least used something that lasted more than 20K.

All my trucks frames have been great, seems to work fine.

Mine are taped too.

2024 Ram 2500 Tradesman, 6.4 Hemi, with Power Wagon package.
Noticed your vehicle description and wanted to say I just ordered a 2025 tradesman 6.4 hemi with the power wagon package. Just learn of this option for the tradesman, looked up videos on YouTube and decided I had to have one. They have a sleeper powerful look.can’t wait. Are you happy with your truck? Any insight would be appreciated.

Hi Action man,

You are catching me at a pretty bad time. I've had the truck less than a month, and I am feeling like I've made a mistake. See this thread I posted earlier today:

Lemon or "normal" dysfunction?

Just read your previous post and hopefully they can remedy the problem. I know it must be frustrating. That being said, are you happy with the ride, comfort, interior and looks of your truck?

Also, the new 25 models come with the column shift.

Ride: its a little jouncy on the highway if the road is concrete with expansion joints, but if the highway is tarmac it rides great. On washboard roads it rides "okay". I had an Icon Stage 5 suspension on my last truck, so the comparison isn't fair (stock to Stage 5). If I compare the stock ride of Tradesman/PW to our stock 4-Runner, then I'd say the Ram rides good on washboard.

Steering: super-tight and precise for a solid front axle vehicle. Very pleased with the steering/handling of the truck. There is no play or sloppiness in the steering wheel.

Comfort: its comfortable. I guess it depends what you are comparing it to, but I have no complaints.

Interior: its the Tradesman trim, so you are not getting all the features of the Power Wagon: heated seats & steering wheel, soft-touch leather on the left (door) elbow rest, storage bins under the floor, 60/40 split in rear seats. I really wanted the factory heated seats and heated steering wheel (I live in a place that gets really cold). But I decided I wanted the manual transfer case lever and the 8.4 inch screen (manual HVAC knobs) - and I prioritized those things over the heated seats/steering wheel - so I got the Tradesman. Its easy to put in aftermarket heated seats, but not so much the heated steering wheel.

Looks: I think the truck looks great.

Would I be happy with the truck if I hadn't already made two trips to the dealer to fix flashing lights and 4WD problems, only to find that there are new flashing lights the next day, and a loss of 4WD? Yes. Am I frustrated that a 3-week old truck is having these problems? Sure. But I'm more concerned that they won't be able to resolve them. But I'm hopeful that in a week or so all this will be in the rearview.

Just had five days with a low around -25 F

Thank you very much for the insight. I hope the dealer takes care of the issues so you can travel in complete confidence. And yea, I see its extremely cold where you’re at. I live in northern ohio just before the Michigan border and I thought it was cold here. I ordered mine on the 16th and received a vin# on the 17th so hopefully production will begin soon. I’ll post some pics when it’s delivered. Take care friend and hopefully we can converse in the near future.

I had the same thing on my 2021 2500. I ordered these and worked perfectly - 68073528AA. Sprayed some woolwax first up inside the holes then popped the plugs in.

My 2014 2500, 2018 1500 and 24 3500 all had the same tape over the frame holes. Mostly seemed to hold up for me. I did fill a lot of the holes with running board hardware though.

Do you recall how many plugs you needed. Raining and will save from crawling under the truck to count them.

Actually not the frame itself, but just the inside of the rocker panels. Do you recall how many you needed?

That's correct, on the inside of the rocker panels. I found my receipt, I ordered 20 just to have some extras (they were only $1.13 a piece, at least back in 2021). I honestly don't recall the exact amount, maybe like 14 or 16.

I've only owned one vehicle in recent years that put actual plastic plugs in the frame holes. We had a 2021 Toyota 4Runner, and they plugged everything with plastic plugs.
At least Ram/Ford paint their frames. GM dips theirs in a greasy/waxy substance that easily scrapes off. The moment the greasy wax is scraped away, the steel underneath rusts. On a warm day you can scrape the stuff off with a finger nail.

They are double the price now. And that was the cheapest I found. I ordered 16. Appreciate your help.
