New to this forum, but im a current 1500 owner. Im looking into possibly buying a used 2500 and want some feedback, thoughts, and insight from current owners.

Looking at a used 2022 2500 Laramie w/ the 6.4 and 25,000 miles on it.

My concern with it is that the under carriage was rusty as anything…im neurotic about the under side of all my vehicles so this thing made me twitch. Is this as bad as i THINK it is?

Aside from the rust the entire truck looks fantastic IMO.

Another concern is that this will be my full time driver and camper puller. We pull out camper a couple hundred miles a month and im wondering if the decreased space in the passenger cabin is a problem for anyone who has two kids. My boys are 5 and 10 and they have a LOT of space in our 1500.

Another concern I have is will this thing sag with my camper? I made it through the first 60 pages (browsing…not reading) of thr towing thread and saw a LOT of 2500s that are doing the pooping dog with their campers. I have my 1500 dialed it and was sorta hoping the 2500 would handle it better overall. The payload of my 1500 is 1,730lbs and has the 3.92 rear.

Pulling a Keystone 250BHS 6,000lbs w/750ish lbs of tongue. (About 13%).

thanks for ANY and all input.

All depends on price I would say. If it's competitively priced against similar trucks without the rust, I would pass. That's a lot of ugly down there. If you ever plan on adding a lift or upgrading suspension, you might have a hell of time. Just my two cents.

I agree. My 2021(yes it gets treated annually to fend off the crap they dump on our roads) looks much nicer than that. I’d question its past but as stated price can make anything appealing. Good luck there.

The 2500 will handle your camper with ease, especially with a nice weight distribution/sway setup.

Thanks for the input so far y’all. In negotiations i was able to get them down to $47,500 for the truck. But that rust is just gnarly.

My DW and I purchased in San Mateo, CA a brand new GMC truck many years back. Truck was built in Shreveport, Louisiana. Everything on the truck with less than 10 miles on the odometer was new, but I noticed that the IFS front axle assembly was rusty. It didn't take long for it to begin dripping gear oil from around the CV seals and the rubber CV boots ripped open. The entire front axle assembly was replaced by the GMC dealership under warranty. That would not have been cheap.

I came from a 2019 RAM 1500 (5th gen). There was definitely more room in my 1500, but there is plenty of room in the back of the 2500. I have a toddler in a car seat (front facing) and he can definitely kick the sh!t out of the back of my seat (which he could barely reach in my 1500). However - that being said, I was prepping for a little ski trip and yesterday and hopped in the rear seat behind my driver seat, and I had still 1-2" of knee room. I'm 6'2", so my drivers seat is pretty far back (not 100%, but very close) and the seat is slightly reclined a little, and I still have room. I'd say the best thing to do would be to get the front seat set where you'd want it, and then chuck the kids in the back and see what they think, but they should have plenty of knee room, unless you're all well into the 6' range.

That being said, what is worse is the rear seat storage. The driveline tunnel is big (vs the flat floor of the 1500s). It has the false floor, and people on here have claimed to have loaded it up (and I don't doubt that), but I ended up just building a little plywood platform which sits on top (covered in carpet) and it's more stable for my dogs, etc.

I’d probably pass on that particular truck. You can find a lot of similarly equipped trucks out west with no rust at all.

Regarding room, you’ll be fine. My family has 1/2 ton 5th gen’s and it’s not a problem from one to another really. Only noticeable difference is the transmission bump, but again, not even noticeable in practicality.

There is a night and day difference in towing with a 3/4 ton vs a half ton. That doesn’t mean that a 1/2 ton can’t or shouldn’t, but the weight and stopping power of the 3/4 ton makes you really feel more confident and comfortable putting the miles on.

Are you sure that truck wasnt sunk at a boat ramp? I would do a CarFax on that truck.

Don't talk yourself into one with that much rust underneath. You can find a cleaner one for sure
