Surround view backup cam with a camper...

I am doing exactly what 20Limited3500 has done on my camper. Got the same camera he did but I found a cheaper source for the housing. I puchased from mnrelectronics.com their part #250-8665. It was not listed on their website but after a phone call was told it was the correct housing for the 19-20 surround 360 application. It was $140 and looks exactly like the one used by 20Limited3500 above. It fits the camera perfectly and has the same 3M adhesive pad, cable and connectors ETC as the camera-source one. I think I will also buy the naviks unit to give me all cameras in motion with no 10 second time outs. Their $375 unit is expensive but looks pretty slick and also gives you full nav functions while in motion. Without that part the whole tailgate camera relocation thing to the back of my camper will be less than $300. Perfect solution for me!

Awesome find! I've been hunting for a solution since March and hadn't seen the NAViKS solution.

EDIT: Found the correct item and video

Dude, yer da man. Awesome find. Wich is the correct one that we need to get. The link that brutal provided had several different ones ranging from $250-$375. I honestly am not a tech genius and can't tell the differences between them all. I just need whichever one will leave the aux camera on. Where does this plug into. Sorry for all the questions but I'm excited by your find. As a guy I can learn better with pictures so please provide any and or all

Again, I'm not a tech guru but I think maybe all I need is the $250 version but am having a hard time deciphering the differences between them all

I called the naviks phone and spoke to someone there that explained that the $375 unit that allows the cameras in motion without the time out also allows nav keyboard entry in motion. I wanted both of those functions so that's the one he said I wanted. I am not sure if there is one just for the cameras. Just call them and see. The unit for cameras and nav in motion goes behind the 12 inch screen and is plug and play to the actual radio chasis which is behind the screen. The guy I spoke to said the naviks unit is small enough that space is no issue to fit there. YouTube videos on screen removal in our trucks look super simple but I've not done it yet. This is what I know so far. Hope it helps

Sounds good, thanks rb. I don't care About the typing when Im driving just the camera, so I might be able to get the $250 version. I'll give em a call.
Now since you the man with the plan, you got us a12 pin plug in so we can just connect our own aux cameras in to. You'd be a national hero then.

I'm not sure what you want to do. Are you saying you want a camera like 20Limited 3500 and I have but you want to use the 12 pin as your point of input instead of the tailgate camera connector he and I are using?

I just want to buy my own commercial camera and cable and plug it into the 12 pin plug in the bed. I can handle the camera and cable, just need that dreaded 12 pin plug converter to cam cable. Then i won't have to unhook and hook my tailgate cam every couple days when we travel.

Do you have a source for a compatable camera? I have the surround camera system which use digital cameras for that system. So in my case I use the digital OE tailgate camera going through the original tailgate input. Non surround equipped trucks use an analog camera and are probably easier to interface from a non OE source. I don't known what you mean by "commercial camera". For either system I have not looked into what the AUX camera input on the two 12 pins is expecting to see. I have those connectors in the bed and bumper. I would guess it is an analog input but don't know for sure. I have all the 12 pin connector wiring info at my other home but won't be there until October. As I recall there is something about the connector pin out that made me think it is an analog input. If someone knows what the Mopar trailer camera kit has for digital vs analog that would be helpful. I've heard some people say that camera has a poor image which I suspect would lead me to believe its analog. The hooking to the 12 pin connector would be simple after knowing what the actual input needs are.

I have the full surround view and paid extra for the aux trailer function and actually bought the $600 aux camera kit unpacked it and plugged it into the 40+' of huge wire harnesses and it was a junk picture. I packed it back up and returned it for a full refund. I'm going to buy a single piece of cable so to reduce all those connection points that come in the mopar kit. I'm going to chose one of the back up cameras from rvs. we used on our commercial vehicles.

Screenshot_20200815-173256.pngthen all I need to figure out is a plug in that goes from camera cable to 12 pin plug in.

Non-surround view equipped trucks still use digital backup cameras.
The AUX camera is analog, and uses pins 21 (signal), 22 (return), & 23 (shield) on the radio connector, and also uses power, ground, and LIN Bus.

Yup It looks like only the cab chasis with non surround camera system uses an analog back up camera. Do you know what the radio connectors equivalent pins in the bumper or bed connector are.? That's what I have at other home but no access to now. That is where Rich wants to try to input his camera. Do you know of any limits on the analog signal supplied to that input?

Rich, like many others here with the Trailer camera option, want to plug into the factory bumper/bed mounted 12-pin receptacle he showed in his pics.

A few have already done this semi-aftermarket. @Phil T for sure has tapped into the circuits by using the Ford lead cable. I've spoken to Bryan at Nichols who supplies Ford replacement cables and does some custom wiring and he's willing to take a look at building out complete assemblies for our RAM trucks that could be used with aftermarket cameras. However, he's asked for a complete circuit diagram that I haven't been able to source or provide. @4wdiver had him make a custom 50' one-piece cable to get rid of all the extra connection (failure) points.

Can anybody that has the 12 pin equipped on their bumper get me a few clear pics of both sides sides of the connector, especially the side where the wires are inserted, so I can clearly see the wire colors and their positions in the connector. I can use a bunch of schematics to deduce what and where they all are.

I can only get one from the exterior view. The one tucked up in the fender and then the bumper is behind spare tire and I can't see wire colors just covers20200816_175551.jpg

If someone else doesn't post it, I'll see if I can get under there tomorrow and pull the plug for pics. I'll lower the spare if I have to.

Good find on the housing. That Naviks unit sounds interesting. If you do it, be sure to post about it if it works like they say with no time outs.

Yes the housing at $140 is a little easier to swallow. So with shipping I was right at $300 for that and the camera. I finished putting it all on today and used a little self stick cable hider thingy from Lowes. It's meant to use indoors so may not last but at least it is white which I wanted. If someone figures out the plug issue I can rehook the analog camera at the top of my roof. By the way if you guys are trying to get to the back of the 12 pin connector for wire colors why not just remove the four screws in the bed side housing one. I've had mine out to add a 7 pin pigtail to the front of my bed. Very simple and seems lots easier than messing with the bumper one.

Good point. I've had the bed plate out to get cable PN for another member and didn't think to record the wiring. That's what I get for replying to threads late at night.

FYI, AFAIK the 2019's and add-on XFQ kits don't have the 12-pin bed connector.

So with a t-30 bit and a little sweet after Wally world with the wife, i got some pics for you all to figure out wiring diagrams of the back of the 12 pin camera plug so hopefully someone can design a plug in for us.
