I have a 2021 Ram 2500 Diesel and when I bought it (used) with only 41,000 miles on it the regeneration frequency was to frequent, giving me the dreaded "Regen frequency to often, see dealer" (or something similar.
The small time local dealer (not a ram dealership) tried nearly everything they knew how to resolve the issue (Changed DPF sensors, flushed DPF, added cleaner, etc.) without success. They then sent it to a local Ram dealership (Longley Bros Dodge Ram in Fulton NY) because they have access to other tools including Ram support. Long story short... They had the truck in and out of their dealership 4 times over a period of 6 months thinking they solved the issue each time but they never did solved the issue. They replaced the entire DPF system (including sensors, etc.) under warranty at no cost to me or the dealer I bought it from. At that point the dealer I bought it from decided enough was enough and systematically performed exhaustive troubleshooting and THEY (not Longly Bros Dodge Ram) found the issue. The issue was a faulty TMAP sensor. The sensor apparently is supposed to adjust the fuel delivery rate based on ambient temperature and it was delivering WAY to much fuel which in turn was prematurely clogging the DPF. No faults were received other than the regen frequency to often. In addition to the replacement of the faulty TMAP sensor, he also sent the turbo actuator out for a rebuild as it was acting (slug-ish) in his words. Apparently this Longly Bros Dodge Ram dealership doesn't think outside the box, just blindly adheres to the troubleshooting guidance offered through the Ram tech support or their experience. PROBLEM solved by this small diligent local dealer, NOT the official Longley Bros Dodge Ram dealership.
As a side note, when I bought the truck I noticed it had an annoying steering "wander" or looseness. Again, when it was looked at the Ram dealership they found no issues. (Maybe there is a permissible wander/looseness allowed, but not normal). My local non-ram dealership discovered the wander was caused by two loose ball joints, which they replaced and solved that issue as well.
As you can sense, I was not impressed with Longley Ram in Fulton, NY for their lack of diligence. The other issue I had with Longley Bros Dodge Ram was that EVERY time it was brought back in after they failed to fix the issue was that I had to go to the back of the wait line to have their mechanics look at it. I get having to wait my turn for a few weeks on the initial service, but after that wait time was made it should not have gone to the back of the line as it was the same issue that they claimed they fixed, and DID NOT!
I know, I did a lot of venting but just wanted to pass this information along just in case someone else has the same issue that their mechanic can't find.
