Hoping to order a new Ram 3500 Drw with the 6.4 Hemi upper trim level

Would be nice to order a 3500 Longhorn Dually megacab with the hemi, I saw back in 2020 you could since I found a used one. I’m hoping for 2025 you can order a Ram 3500 dually Laramie with the 6.4 at minimum but thankfully they added the night edition to the big horn but I would love having at least the Laramie interior so hope Ram does right because not everyone needs a diesel and two this is the first year of the new engine and not sure what to expect especially with the emissions crap.

I agree, and one of the main reasons I ordered a Hemi was because I was afraid the way I use my truck (infrequently driven but a lot of short trips and running the engine for short periods when I do drive it) was because I was afraid it could problems with the diesel emissions. While this isn't good for any engine, gas engines are a lot more tolerant of it.

Yeah right now on cars.com I have a 2021 Longhorn with the brown/black interior I love that has a hemi engine as a megacab drw which is exactly what I want. I’m hoping for 2025 I can order that combo or at least a Laramie but we will see. I hate how ram is always so behind on the website compared to Chevy/GM

This thread has the most updated information that I have seen in my searching various forums and on line videos.

Post #2 links to an actual order options setup.

Based on the information there, the initial production will be with the updated diesel Cummins 6.7.

There is a lot of speculation on what / when a gas engine will be offered. A buddy and I have been trading emails and we have come up with 4 - 5 possible ideas to kick around for fun. They range from a hybrid setup / small engine to using the Cummins Octane gasoline version of the 6.7. Almost everyone is telling me that I am wrong, so who knows.

I am even wondering if RAM knows since they have just changed management.

The code guides only list one engine option for the 3500 Megacab trucks, the 6.7 diesel.

There is not that much speculation (aside from your posts). It’s been published in the 2025 code guides that it will be the 6.4L Hemi.

Anything is possible, but it appears Ram is putting all the update energy into the 6.7. Guess we’ll find out on the 7th.

Probably a stupid question, but their online brochure shows that up to Laramie can still be ordered with Hemi? But when I go to build that online (Mega Cab) it is only showing diesel?

Even if the option for a Hemi is listed in the order guide it doesn't mean RAM will release it for production. The base engine for the 3500 Crew Cab Long bed Laramie is the Hemi in the 2025 order guide. I was told it was the same in the 2024 order guide but it was never opened up for ordering.

That's interesting. Why aren't the order guides accurate?

10 Days until we think we might learn something about the gasser that might be the same old or might be something new, maybe an Octane, or maybe a BMW twin turbo, who knows. Maybe we should have a count down clock on the site? :D
I'm new to RAMs so take this with a grain of salt but one would think if a different gas engine were to be available that it would be listed in the 2025 order guide. Right now they have the Hemi listed in it with the new diesel as an option and I saw a post that someone was able to place an order for a Hemi Tradesman so that means RAM intends on providing Hemis at at least that trim level. If they were to provide a different gas engine then the order guide would need to be updated and they would either need to replace the Hemi in it or have two gas options available. It is most likely that the only gas engine option for 2025 HDs will be the Hemi and they will limit it to the lower trim level(s).

Highly unlikely we’ll see any hemi gas powered high trim level DRW trucks ever again. Ram has been on a never ending crusade to cut low volume configurations, and a hemi powered dually is pretty low on the desired list nationwide.

As for the next gas engine, the 7.2L currently in development at Cummins is capable of being built as a diesel or a gasoline. Maybe we’ll see that offered in 2027 in both fuel types.

Yeah I would enjoy a Laramie drw hemi because right now I can do a big horn drw with night edition which I can get pretty loaded around 68k so maybe with discounts low 60s. Guess we will see once the 2025 site is back up but I’m hoping I can at least do a Laramie crew cab drw hemi. I wouldnt mind a big horn since I can get custom interior made and you can get good led lighting and a lot in a big horn for the money I think. I’m just not trying to spend 100k on a new unproven diesel lol def not for 2025 who knows how things will go

Yeah I built a loaded big horn with night edition that was nice enough for me but I’ll be gone until 2026 so I may just wait another year and see

The HO Diesel with "8-speed automatic" (ZF 8AP) and the Hemi is the only engine listed in the pre-release towing guides on the bodybuilder site. The Hemi is listed for both pickup and CC trucks with the CC trucks showing both the current 8HP75 and an optional "8-speed automatic" (the ZF 8AP) instead of the former AS66RC Aisin 6-speed optional trans.

Wait….the builder site is up and running??

Nevermind. Lol

Yeah that’s not right … search Canadian inventory and you see stacks of diesel 2500s but very very few gas 2500s. It’s because most people up here want the gas trucks and they disappear very quickly

I didn’t say anything about gas 2500’s. That’s a totally different set up than a 3500 DRW with a hemi in it. A gas 2500 is an easier to sell than a gas 3500 DRW.

Ram sold 125,000 trucks in Canada in 2022. They sold 468,344 trucks in the USA that same year. They’re not going to base their offerings (or cuts) on what is desirable in 1/4 of their sales.

A hemi powered dually is difficult sale in the US, and is absolutely one of their lowest represented configurations, which is why it was removed from offering and will likely stay that way until a new gas option comes along that provides the truck greater capability than the current 6.4L platform.

For someone that must have a Hemi dually, IMHO, more likely to be a commercial buyer anyway, they also continue to offer the Hemi in the CC trucks, though I haven't looked at trim levels for that platform.

Yep the CC trucks still have the gas option across the entire range. It’s probably going to stay that way too. A lot of short cycle users switched to gas in order to escape emissions trouble. All of the ambulance services in my region are now using gas engines for all of their ambulances for that very reason. Same would hold true for city delivery vehicles.
