2023 New Mirrors Conversion (Merged threads)

I think this thread is talking me around to doing the new style mirror conversion on my 2022 instead of staying with the old style when swapping to the black mirrors. Especially if it can be done without hacking my doors.

Is there any information on the wiring to control the utility lights and the power extension/retraction? Are there any brains in the mirror or are there just power/ground wires for the light/motor? If the latter, does anyone know how the truck controls the extend/retract? Is it timed, or does it look for the motor to stall when it reaches the stop? Or limit switches in the mirror?
All of the logic for controlling the mirror is in the door module. If you want extension and retraction and utility lights you’ll need to swap your BCM to a ‘23+.

This is what I was referring to:

Then, if you want to make them power telescope and make the utility lights work, you would basically have to put those functions on some auxiliary switches, using custom wiring and relays, and timer relays (I believe this is the route someone else in this thread went).

Though I don't know if anyone has actually done that or has any info. It's pretty low on my priority list but it's gotten me thinking..

Ahh yeah. No logic in the mirror. Honestly I think I'd do some kind of microcontroller instead of timer relays, because then you can tweak it, and maybe even have it watch for the load change to stop the motor when it hits the end of movement.

If you don’t use the electric extension of the mirrors can you manually pull the out and back in?

How bright are those front facing lights?
Nothing like the ditch lights people install, but they’re decent for a little extra light around the fenders and in front. They’d be great for driving through tight trees at night, but that doesn’t work from the factory because they shut off when you start moving.

They’d be extremely distracting to other drivers on the road though, so you definitely don’t want them on real roads.

Has anyone confirmed if the new style mirror anti glare function works? Or is that a function requiring the 23+bcm?

As far as I can tell, it does not work. Or it works automatically, and I haven’t noticed the difference. When I have a car behind me and toggle the dimming function on the rear view mirror, I see the rear view change but not the side view.

A quirk I have found with the 23+ mirror/module combo is they will NOT power fold when moving. This may be a dealbreaker for some people. For me it is just a nuisance, but not a major problem. With the old mirrors, there was a section of my daily commute where I had to fold them in so they wouldn’t hit a bridge guardrail or hang out into oncoming traffic in the opposite lane. The new mirrors are just narrow enough that it’s not an issue. But it’s annoying when I pull up to the car wash and have to stop before I get to the kiosk to fold the mirrors in so they don’t hit the kiosk and other situations like that such as drive thrus, tight parking spots, tool booths, etc. First world problems, yeah yeah, I know. But it’s dumb programming. At least let them work below 15mph or something.

Edit: This is true of the 2023+ trucks with the complete native mirror/module/BCM/etc, not just the conversion.

I really like the fold on the fly function of the moose jobbers. That stinks they did away with it.

I think they'll fold under 5 or 10 mph.

I've folded mine in while pulling up to the gate for my storage lot.

It must be 5mph or less, because I feel like I have to come to a complete stop. Old ones would fold in and back out at 70mph.

It’s 10 MPH. I’ve spent an excessive amount of time testing them and trying to find a way to stop them from auto-unfolding at 10 MPH.

I have not read all this thread yet. But, does anyone know if you can force the convex mirror outward to readjust the range of motion? Mine will show me the door right next to me but will not adjust outward enough to my liking. I have pushed pretty hard on the convex but it does not move. I do not want to damage it.
Thank you.
