Slow-filling Tank?

Does anybody else struggle with gas pumps shutting off multiple times before your tank is full? Is there something wrong with my truck, or is this one of its "character traits"?
2024, 6.4 Hemi 2500, crew cab, long bed with 50 gallon fuel tank. I haven't had it long enough to see what works better or worse, but so far changing nozzle position and direction hasn't produced a consistent solution. While I don't usually run it very low, trickling in 40 gallons of gas is kind of a hassle.

Thanks!
Jeff

Sounds like a faulty vent I would have it checked since it should be no issue to fill at full volume

What you are describing only happens to me when I fill up at a Costco, but not at any other gas station.

I didn't think the 50 gallon was an option any more on the US 2500s...are you in Canada?

I have that issue once in a while...but it seems to be pump related for me. If its all the time maybe have it looked at.

Central Texas - bought new off of the lot in Lampasas.
I'll climb under it this weekend to see if I can find anything obviously wrong. If not, then I'll ask the dealer about it when I take it in for an oil change.

Thanks!

50 gallons for the 2500 Short bed 6.4 Hemi will soon be an aftermarket choice by transferflow.

Ahh I see its a tradesman...I think that's the only trim level you can order a 2500 with the OEM 50 gallon from what I am reading on the interwebs.

I had that issue in Cali with their fume recovery BS pumps.
Don't have that issue in Nevada.
Other issues with pumps is too fast of a flow can cause it.

I ordered a 2024 Big Horn Hemi 3500 with a 50 gallon tank.

I had a look around under the truck. The filler pipe has a fairly narrow diameter, takes a tight turn, and then runs almost horizontally the rest of the way to the tank. Other than parking with the filler side uphill, this appears to be something I just deal with on fast pumps. I will keep track of the conditions where the problems occur.

Enjoy!

The slow fill/endless clicking for the fuel fill was VERY common on the 1500's (I had one, and it developed this issue after the warranty ran out). Required replacing a few parts (which included my fuel tank, since for the 2019MY the breather tube and return were all non-serviceable) and several hundred dollars to fix out of warranty.

IMO anyone with this issue should contact the dealer, a few things could be fouled and/or clogged up. The fuel filler vent was the likely culprit on the 1500's, not sure if the part is shared w/ the 2500's.

BTW, one thing which supposedly made it more likely to happen was overfilling - ie going beyond the first 'full' shutoff on the pump. My new 2500 only has about 4k miles on it, but happily no fuel filling issues yet. I never go after it clicks off the first time now though, just in case.

I fill the tank on the low speed setting. Once it clicks off I'm done, and repeat at the next fuel stop. 50 gal tanks are nice and I'm glad I ordered it.

Has anyone recently dealt with this? Or found a solution. I’ve got 3,700 miles on my ‘26 and it’s pretty much given trouble refueling every time. I usually fill the wife’s van then the truck on the same pump and have no issues with the van. The truck won’t allow me to fully insert the nozzle or even get the low speed notch on the handle engaged. Definitely a hassle when this thing is tall and needs 50 gallons per fill up. The neck doesn’t seem to have a crazy angle to it, but the diameter does seem small like someone else commented about. Looking for any recommendations. Thanks.

I've had this problem since I've owned the truck. Maybe 50% of pumps work ok on the slower fill setting, otherwise I have to reposition the nozzle a few times to get it to stay on. There isn't a clear "this position works" solution, trial and error. Annoying but usually I can get it to keep running.

I have spoken to my dealer about it and intend to find a time to take it in when the tank is low. It'll be a few weeks before I can schedule a day for that and will post an update. In addition to the inconvenience, I'm concerned about damaging the evap system components.
