Hey all, 2019, Ram 2500 with 21,000 miles.
Hours:
Idle: 82
Drive: 646

Truck has had all the recalls including CP4, and VB6 emissions recall.

Check engine light came on with an error message: Exhaust filter full, power reduced, see dealer.

My truck has been at the dealer for a month waiting for parts! I am losing patience, I don’t know what to do.

The truck is not a daily driver, I mostly use it to tow my Jeep over the Rockies from Denver to MOAB. I drive it about once a week for work.

Is this really what I have to look forward to? Truck at the dealer for a month every 20k miles?

I was told parts would be here 10/28, then 11/4, now they say 11/14. I’m incredibly frustrated.

The dealer is replacing the DPF under warranty, but is saying to MAF needs replaced and is the source of the problem, but they won’t cover the MAF under warranty. What should I do? I’m at a loss, my truck is just stuck in parts limbo.

It’s likely the 28.85 mph average speed may have had something to do with it. The DPF got extended warranty when the recalls were done.
DPF= 5/50,000
MAF= 3/36,000

Oh wow, I didn’t realize the MAF was only covered under the 3/36

MAF should be under powertrain since its part of the engines running system

I have always been under the impression that the MAF is an emissions item and falls under that warranty.

I got the truck back today. In addition to the DPF which they changed under warranty, they recommended the air filter ($50), fuel filters ($360), and the MAF ($420).

I said yes to the air filter because I get those from the dealer and that is about what I pay anyway... I said no to the fuel filters because the dash says they are at 52% life. And I said no to the MAF because I can do it myself for a lot less.

But they returned the truck with a warning about me not getting the other services with a statement that the DPF will clog again if the other issues are not fixed. I assume they mean the MAF?

Did I shoot myself in the foot by not letting them replace the MAF? Now I am worried that they will deny warranty if the DPF clogs again since I didn't pay to have the MAF replaced by the dealership...

By the way, the technician notes say "wrong MAF". Any idea what that means? Did some of these trucks come with the wrong part from the factory or something? - The dealership has been no help.

I can get a MAF from mopar parts giant for $250...

MAF wont need to be replaced thats just silly if its not faulty and throwing codes it can just be cleaned. The airfilter is the one to worry about

You can get the MAF sensor from Geno’s for $115 plus shipping. Just keep the old one in case of issues and your receipt. They can’t require you to buy it from them. That’s racketeering and is illegal as long as they are not a politician.
The MAF sensor Geno’s has is a genuine Cummins part also.

There actually is a TSB out for the MAF in relation to frequent regens.

It appears that at some point production switched between Germany and China with several different production codes between the too.

I can’t find the exact TSB, but here’s a link to a thread here detailing some of the issues as related to frequent regens and the DPF:

Edit- I too just received my truck back last week after waiting on back ordered DPFs. Oddly enough I have right around 21K miles on my 2023 2500, however my truck falls within the production date range for another recently released service bulletin that appears to point towards a bad batch of DPFs from 2022-2023 manufacture date trucks.

I just looked and I have the Germany MAF. Maybe that’s what the tech meant when he said it has the “wrong MAF”... I am guessing the made in China MAF is the updated version.

That is correct as far as my understanding. Some said it helped. Some said it didn’t. It’s just that there are so many different systems that have to work together and if one is just slightly off from what it needs to be, it throws the whole system off.
They have these things so sensitive that any minor change to the intake air flow throws it into a spastic attack and makes them go into an almost constant regen. I had taken some of the AGS (shutter) slats out and decided to reinstall them. The truck went into regen within 27 miles just from altering the air flow outside of the engine. That’s not right.

Well I bit the bullet and bought the MAF from the dealer. I know… Stupid.

But I was getting paranoid that if I ordered one online I might receive the old version. I wanted to be able to inspect the MAF before I bought it.

I’m just ready to be done with this so I can start enjoying the truck again.
