I have a 2022 Ram 3500 HO Cummins. Engine is 100% stock at at 45,000 miles. At times I feel like it takes a bit longer to turn on. This can be a warm engine temperatures or cold or hot, does not matter. I would say maybe .5 -1.5 seconds longer than normal maybe 2 seconds. It is to the point when I turn on my truck I get a quick feeling of concern that it is not going to turn on. I use 76 Fuel Stations and it has R99 Diesel. I recently did an oil change and add Hotshot Secret Stiction Eliminator in hopes of a normal engine clean up and thought maybe this would help but its the same. I also use Hotshot EDT (2oz) per fill up. Any thoughts on this or why? I do not hear any abnormal sounds when turning on or anything it just intermittely takes a but longer to turn over. This is my first diesel so just wondering if over time and break in, is it normal?

My 22 3500 HO does the same thing. Most times starts right up... occasionally it takes a few extra cranks... I've not found a reason why either.

My 5500 cranked forever.
Was in for maintenance at the dealership and I communicated that to them.

IDK what they did but when I picked it up it no longer took as long.
I failed to ask what they did as I just mentioned it as a side note.

But, bottom line, from experience, it can be corrected, I just unfortunately don't know what that fix was.

It may be loosing the fuel Prime. Does it take longer to crank if you get it and double press right away to start? Is it quicker if it does a preheat or you do not double press as fast? With the electronic fuel lift pump it may take a second or two to refill the fuel system if it is loosing prime.

Losing fuel prime? If i get off to lets say store and come back 5-10 mins later and restart again it may take longer

My 2022 HO does the same thing, and has from the day it was new. 51k miles on it now. The longer crank times are intermittent, and happen infrequently, but they do occur from time to time. The 2023’s had a TSB out for longer than normal crank times, as they were demonstrating that issue repeatedly during the first few months of production. The fix was a software update. However there has been no such TSB for 2022’s. I suspect it is just a random glitch from time to time and not something to be concerned with. If the longer than normal crank times become repetitive and consistent, then I would assume you either have a loss of fuel prime issue, or an issue with rail pressure being lower than normal during startup (sensor or control issue).

Counterfeit fuel filters can cause loss of prime, or fuel not to flow at all. Any chance you are using something aftermarket?

It is just 1-2 cranks more than normal but it is enough for me to have a WTF moment lol and think it is not going to start and then it turns over.
