LOUD FAN NOISE ON A RAM 2500 2020 6.7

My dear friends from the forum, my name is Samuel, and I’m writing from Brazil. I’m experiencing an issue with my 2020 RAM 2500 6.7 regarding the electric fan, where it makes a VERY LOUD noise in certain situations.
It’s important to note:
  • The truck has an SFI remap (a renowned Brazilian diesel tuning company) and a K&N performance air filter;
  • The temperature always stays from the middle down, it never goes beyond that. I always monitor it on the analog gauge and the digital dashboard. Some time ago, it used to stay only in the middle, but now it stays from the middle down after installing the filter;
  • The noise only starts when I turn on the air conditioning; otherwise, it doesn’t happen;
  • If I start the truck with the AC on, even after turning it off later, the electric fan doesn’t turn off unless I go to the highway and maintain a higher speed above 100 km/h. However, in the city, it stays on 100% of the time at lower speeds;
  • The noise is literally coming from the intercooler’s electric fan, as if the truck is cooling down from being hot, but it happens even when it's completely cold after sitting for days. If I repeat the process as mentioned above, it behaves the same way, and the only way to resolve it is to stop the truck, turn it off, and switch off the AC, then restart the truck with the AC off. Or, start the truck with the AC already off. It's important to highlight that even if I don’t turn on the AC compressor but only the fan, it behaves the same way;
  • As mentioned, if I start the truck with the AC off, it behaves normally without any issues. The problem only arises when I turn on the air conditioning.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this issue? It seems to be something related to the AC. I’ve checked some international forums, and most say it’s normal, but I’ve driven other Rams of the same year and even newer ones, and none of them behave this way. All of them turn the electric fan on as needed; none stay on constantly like mine.
I appreciate the opportunity, big hug to everyone!

So, would you advise me to go back to the original air filter? Would that help solve this problem? What makes me think is that, besides this one, I have another 2024 and a 2021, and they don't behave the same way. I can turn the air on and off freely, and they don’t react like this.

K&N is junk and damages the engine

Electric fan?

The cooling fan on the truck has an electronically controlled clutch assembly.

If anything, I'd blame the tune.

Lose the K&N and go back to a stock airbox and filter Mopar 53034051AB or Fleetguard AF27684 The stock airbox and filter are good for tunes to 500-600HP.

K&N filters like a screen door (they are garbage).

You didn't modify the fan shroud or anything else when you installed the K&N?

It won’t help solve your fan noise but it will prevent engine dusting. Can you record audio/video and post to YouTube or similar so we can observe the fan running?

If the fan clutch is on full power with the A/C that is normal BUT to be on in all those conditions is not normal. You should have the A/C pressures checked first the system may be over charged which is causing a high pressure issue which will kick on the fan to cool the condenser (lower high side pressure)

After you ditch the K&N then ask the tuner if they modified the fan programming at all.

My dear friends, I have already replaced the air filter with the original one, it is indeed a viscous clutch, I apologize for the mistake. About the tuner, I asked him and he told me there was no change in the ventilation system. I’ll upload a YouTube video so you can hear how it sounds. In the video, the truck had just been started, it was partially cold after being off for 2 hours, and right after I started it, I recorded the video with the A/C on. It’s important to point out that if I start it with the key, it behaves the same way, since the A/C turns on as well."

Its an electronic clutch not a viscous clutch. Your truck has a physical key not a fob for push button?

It’s an electronic clutch indeed, I don’t understand much about mechanics, but it’s exactly electronic, it’s really a remote control, just like the 5th gen Rams, with remote start and keyless entry.

I would have the A/C pressure checked to start

I tried to watch your video and this came up. I’m already signed in so idk if that’s a real link (phishing scam) or what..
