My 2021 3500 HO is at 93K miles, got a notification to have dealer service the DPF system. Curious if others have had the same message and what it entailed?

The truck has been regening frequently and the DPF filter is getting dirty rather quickly.

May have my own diesel mechanic “service” the system…

Are there currently any active or pending DTC’s when you scan the truck?

What did the message say specifically? (There is no “service DPF” message specifically. There is:

“exhaust system service required see dealer”

and

“Service DEF system see dealer”.

These are very different messages and it’s important to know which one you saw, as they mean very different things.

Ok so that’s a DEF / SCR message. It does not have anything to do with your DPF.

If the message popped up, but you do not have a currently illuminated check engine light, then there’s a chance it was just a temporary glitch that will correct itself with further driving. You can scan the truck with a scan tool and see if any DTC’s are currently pending, but it’s unlikely. You should also check to make sure your truck has all current updates / PCM flashes and software installed. Sometimes these glitch messages are rectified by nothing more than the latest version of the OEM firmware

I am experiencing more regens than usual, like daily. Seems more than a glitch but that would be nice if that’s all it was.

The message came and went once maybe it was a misread.

You are conflating two different things in the same conversation.

Are you experiencing active regen messages on the EVIC?

OR

Are you experiencing Service DEF system messages?

OR

Are you seeing both?

You are not being very clear about your issue.

I haven’t received any messages about regens, just stating the fact I’ve noticed way more frequent regens and the DPF gauge filling quicker. I never said I had any alerts for regens.

I mentioned I don’t remember the exact verbiage now of the message. And it has not come back up.

How are you "noticing" regens? Are you monitoring anything?

If you have the DPF gauge displayed and the truck does an active regen, it will show that.

I know from experience that one thing that can cause frequent re-gens and ultimately the DPF service notification is a hole or rip in the boot of the turbo charge tube. Mine was damaged by being re-installed crooked with an over tightened clamp by the mechanic performing the Y78 recall. The dealer ended up replacing the DPF under warranty.
