Recall VB6 - 2019 DJ D2 Diesel Engine Calibration

My 2020 3500 HO Aisin is doing the exact same thing when towing 26k on steep 7-10% grades at 6-8k feet elevation. There is definitely a harsh jolt from transmission especially around 1750 rpms between 2-3 gears. But I’ve notice it once in a while at lower rpms and between other gears.
Also mine surges and you can see boost gauge bouncing a few psi. It’s especially noticeable with no load and at higher elevations.
Any updates from FCA? Thanks
I was told it could be a year until they push out the fix for the VB6 recall.

Well, going on four, weeks later, and going on the Third rear window! they still have my truck, and they have more broken parts than they had when I took it to them initially! They still haven't even looked at the surging, and shifting issue! Talk about the worst dealer out there that I have ever dealt with! To spend that kind of money on a piece of equipment, advertised for a specific benefit, and over all others. Now you can't use it, heck they can't even get the window right! They sure can come up with the stories/ excuses.

I read on another forum one story where one guys truck was stuck at the dealer for a while. Apparently if it spends too long at the dealer, the lemon law applies and you have the right to return the truck or to get a replacement. His story ended up with dealer buy back and he got a brand new replacement truck. This may vary by state but worth checking into. Keep all the records how often and how long your truck spent at the dealer. Check the paperwork each time you pick it up so it shows the right drop off and pick up dates.

I still haven't done mine and not planning to, until there are mostly positive reports on VB6 virus. Right now there are roughly 50/50 chance of the truck running like **** after. Not gonna take chances, it works perfect as it is.

Absolutely!!! Buddy stay in touch. Along with other smaller issues I'm dealing with, I am focussing on the unsafe surging issues. Just make sure you document all conversations, dates and symptoms. I am not going to settle on this. After 30 years of dealing with GM, and switching to RAM for several reasons... I was sold on the truck and capabilities so, NO WAY!!!... This is getting resolved! I am not getting down the road 3-5 years and footing the 10,000 bill for a mistake leading up to this crap.... F..k them
I feel your pain. I am in the same boat. I have opened a case and am at Level 2. It was looking like they were going to help me out but have not heard from them for two weeks now. I won't go away either. My truck was/is brand new and they ruined it. My last trip i was down to 8.9 mpg pulling only 13k. The surging, coughing, rough starting has got to be fixed. The overall performance continues to be a total drag. Does anyone have the the law firms name who handled the class action suit with the eco diesel?

First off, I am not sure yet of the name of any law firm that has handled any class action suit. Second, I just reached out to Ram Care on Saturday August 1... [we will see]. My surging, shifting issues are noticeable at low elevations, with no load, at about 5th gear. The higher in elevation you travel, the more severe the surging and shifting gets! So I sent it to the dealer, and they performed a relearn? Why,,, They stated we don't know what to do, please call Ram Cares!!! Thats really helpful!. I contacted a diesel mechanic who has specialized in building cummins, and racing dodge trucks. So I drove 330 miles to Lubbock. Since Lubbock is so flat, it was difficult for him to replicate the issue, until I had him slow down, and accelerate at a consistent somewhat slow rate up a soft overpass. Well yep, there it is. We looked at the computer that was plugged into the truck, and the fuel pressure firing was all over the map! 14-41 I believe. Also I learned that Ram decided to use the CP4 fuel pump in the 2019 diesel trucks... Yep a supposed remake of the detrimental cp4 pump that GM, FORD, and others were sued over. I then took the truck to Andrews, Benny Boyd Ram diesel mechanic, who verified that there are issues with the Aisin transmission software, and the new CP4 fuel pump, and Ram doesn't Know what the fix is! I also have found out that All these diesel vehicles are advertised, and sold as a particular tool, capable of doing a job! More than the competitor, So we buy the overpriced item in one condition, then they tell you there is a recall that has to be addressed, and you end up with a different product, far less than what you purchased. My fuel mileage has dropped by 2-4 mpg since I have owned it. Dropping every time they touch it! The idea that they can sell an item in one condition, and then once you pay for it, change it to fit the governments emissions standards is illegal. Bait and switch, false advertising, I am looking at an attorney if this doesn't get resolved soon, and honestly!

As is typical in these situations, you have multiple law firms getting involved and forum shopping for courts which are believed to be sympathetic to the Plaintiff. California's government got involved through the state emmissions board and office of the AG. Steve Berman at Hagens Berman was one of the primary attorneys involved in both FIAT EcoDiesel and VW/Bosch complaints which were filed on behalf of clients.

I have a question for you. Not trying to pick a fight or anything like that, just trying to understand. Why do you still have this truck? Are you just trying to get it fixed and then sell it? I am just wondering, if you hate it, or its problems so much.

I am not brand loyal, honestly I bought mine for the comfort, but all of the current trucks out there are good. Some better than others on certain things. If my truck had the issues you have or could have, it would be gone, without a second thought, and most likely a different brand in my driveway. Yes, that brand could also have issues, but life is too short to obsess over all the problems. Sure, maybe lose a couple of thousand, which is not a trivial thing, but in the long run, would it be cheaper?

I have always been a chevy fan. 30 years of driving, i have always had chevys! This last year GM lost my interest with the design, interior, exterior color, and frankly the attitude of the dealers, So I decided to look at a Ram. Well I liked everything about it. My problem is with the selling points that the dealers used. Along with, OH its resale value is better than GM! When you spend $85,000 on a truck, then you spend another $10,000 in add ons, and in under a year you have all the issues. Then to talk to a dealer, and they tell you that your truck is dropped 25,000 even with the add ons. So Im a little upset about loosing 35,000 on a item that was supposed to be one way, and isn't what I was sold. Its not just a couple thousand! No Fight.... Just Fact.... I am done with it, but Im not ok with loosing money if its their fault! ...I was also told Ram Cares would call, but so far they haven't.

Fluctuating FRP is concerning with these CP4s

I have felt the surging as well. I was at 9000-10000ft this weekend pulling the 5er. When hooked up it was hard to tell. I think that’s because the truck was demanding fuel so the ECM was willing to deliver it. I hooked and under no load it was treacherous. My assumption is a basis of engine load which is why when your giving it the floor unloaded it doesn’t hiccup.

I’m about ready to tune the truck and be done with FCA.

In the meantime demand engine load

As far as the the shifts I’m sure with the update the shift points are at de-fueling positions which would make sense why it’s gotten worse. With defuel points being all over it would be hard for a trans programmed for that to act or behave normally.

Why are the dealers still allowed to do the vb6?
Seems like a fairly high "fail" rate if you count the side effects.

Agreed.. When I took my truck back for the second time for the surging issue, the service advisor asked me what he was supposed to do, and what the Ram Care representative suggested as a fix! SMH... unbelievable...

Being an emissions recall, I would guess it is to satisfy Uncle Sam, and the feds don't care if your truck works or not.

I wish someone could verify for certain that the vehicles are sold at one emissions level, then sold, and then tuned to fit the government standards by a certain date. Regardless of performance! Thats illegal.

My guess, and this is 100% WAG, is that the 2019s were already way late coming out, then the government shut down happened, with the threat of a delay of certification they may have gotten a conditional approval pending final review??? Regardless, there is a proven track record of performance/mpg killing reflashes going back to the Liberty CRD, and the Ecodiesel.

First post on HDRAMS - found this thread as a result of my dealer surprising me with the VB6 flash and valve body recall (trans fire hazard recall) during a routine maintenance checkup. After reading this, I was terrified how my truck would act. After about a 300mi weekend trip without load, mileage is slightly increased (about 1.5-2mpg) and normal driving seems basically fine. Cold starts are fine. The idle cabin shake that people mention in this thread is increased, but I wouldn't call it intolerable... its a diesel truck after all.
