2022 Ram Tow/Trailer Camera Options

For those that are interested, a Trailer Tow Camera Kit p/n 68586112AA just popped up on eBay for $550:

It sold an hour ago. Those things go fast!

Has anyone pieced together a unit from Amazon? Fakra z adapter to RCA video cable and generic camera. Any reason it would not work?

The digital cameras are, well... digital.

They use proprietary protocols. The 22 cam system is different than the 23+ so they aren't even compatible.

The Aux2 and on earlier models AUX1 and AUX2 are analog and any analog camera will work. These show on the radio screen, not the DRVM.

It did not come with the truck. I got the surround view camera set but not the tow mode camera which really sucks. I did find part number 68586112AA online at moparpartsonline.com for $566 but I’m leary to buy it for fear it may not be compatible with my 2024 model. The description online doesn’t mention a model year.
I picked up my 2024 RAM 3500 Longhorn last week (12 weeks earleir than expected). I ordered the wired tow mode camera and tested it a few days ago, works perfectly. Part # 68586112AA, so it looks as if that kit at Mopar should work for you. Compatible with Digital Mirror 68517865A* and 68532263A*, so maybe that's what you need to check first.

I have a 2022 Ram 3500 with the wired tow mode package. Camera works fine on the back of my camper with the rear view mirror but wish it was more of a “fisheye” view. It’s either too high or too low and would be ideal if I can see cars coming up my passenger side. I lowered it and secured it to the steps on my camper ladder but no help. Was going to start looking through 48 pages here but before I do I will ask here. Any other camera options I can use with the supplied wire? To use with the rear view mirror.

Unfortunately not. It's a digital camera using a proprietary protocol and no other available camera will work. If you need to see better down the side your options are basically to add some side cameras and a separate screen, or upgrade your truck to a '23 or '24 with the 3 camera towing setup.

May look into the separate screen option. Not ready for a new truck yet.

I just received my Trailer Tow Camera Kit p/n 68586112AA from MoparOnlineParts.com. It is a complete kit that includes the camera, a bracket, a signal booster, a 55’ cable to go from the camera to the booster and a 13’ cable to go from the booster to the truck, some zip ties and screws as well as a few other things. I tested out the camera with my 2024 3500 and it works perfectly. Now I need to get it installed on my 42’ 5th wheel RV along with the trailer surround cameras that came with the truck.

Glad to hear you got one and that perhaps suppliers are getting restocked. I managed to snag one on eBay a little over a month ago. It is a slick camera. Works great on my 2024 power wagon.

There are no pics on any of the listings. Is this with the 12pin connector that is for trucks equipped with the 12 pin trailer cam?

Great to see you got one. I just inquired from another parts seller and they said about 2 weeks.

I am tempted to order as I just installed the 360 camera system onto my trailer and this would make the towing experience even better.

I still need to install the 360 surround cameras. I’m still trying to figure out how to do it. The box that all the cameras plug in to needs to be protected. Ideally it would go in the front basement storage compartment but I’m not sure how to route the cables down to there. I may mount a plastic waterproof junction box on top of the RV and house it in there.

I think the instructions showed external mounting but yes interior mounting is preferred. I have a 36ft enclosed trailer so I installed mine at the front on the inside.

I have a 2021 Grand Design Imagine 2800BH. I dropped the thermoplast underbelly protective cover & mounted the control box to the bottom of the floor so it is protected from the elements.

The route for each camera was a unique challenge. I’m happy to share more details. I’ll post a link tomorrow to more pictures.
I would really appreciate that. I have a Grand Design Influence and trying to figure out how I’m going to route the 4 wires down to the control box. I’m a little nervous about drilling holes in my brand new 5th wheel. It’s 42’ so I’m not sure if the wires are even long enough for the runs.

Below is a link to my Amazon photo album entitled "2024.04 - RAM TSVCS" (I installed the TSVCS in 04/24). It includes photos of my wiring runs for each camera as well as a bunch of photos & a video working thru the various issues I had using AlfaOBD to activate the TSVCM setting in my truck. I couldn't have done it without the great help I got from members on this forum including @Jimmy07 and @CortexM0.

It would make more scene if I walk you thru the pictures over the phone. I'll send you a PM.
