Banks IDash gauge-- some Q's

I just bought a new 2024 Ram 3500 6.7 HO and am thinking about adding the IDash gauge to monitor certain parameters. On my previous truck, a 2006 Ram 2500 5.9, I had the IDash and used it with the Economind tuner and Banks brake. I loved it. I liked being able to monitor things like trans temp, EGT, boost pressure, etc. The new 2024 Ram does not provide gauges to monitor these items and Im hoping the IDash will provide it, but I don't know if the IDash works as a stand-alone monitor or if it will only work with a Banks tuner. I don't want to run a tuner or install sensors and all sorts of wiring into my brand new truck, so I'm hoping the IDash is a simple plug-&-play through the OBD port. ??? Reading the FAQ on Banks website, it appears that most the things I'd like to keep an eye on with the gauge would not require adding sensors and stuff, but its confusing. Can anyone provide any more info on this? My email to Banks went unanswered..... which isn't exactly confidence-inspiring....
 
No need on a stock truck really since the only one you mentioned that it does not have is EGTs which you wont have high EGTs on stock tuning.

Yes it just plugs in to the OBD and can read all those as the truck has all the sensors required including 5 egt probes and more but you have a trans temp gauge and boost gauge in the EVIC so IMHO its a waste of money unless you are tuned and even then most tuners you can use your phone or similar to read the PIDs when you need to
 
Well since I don't have an owners manual (see my other post) I had no idea my truck had any of those gauges. All I see on the dash are rpm, mph, oil pressure, temp, fuel, and def. You must be referring to the little screen in the center of the dash. I've cycled through the options on that and I get fuel economy, trailer brake, tire pressure, etc but none of the stuff like trans temp or boost pressure. ?? So I guess I gotta go screw around and push buttons and play with it cuz I had no idea any of that stuff was in there. (Again, an OWNERS MANUAL would be nice!!) My 06 would see higher EGT's (1200+) on stock tuning if the load was heavy enough and the hill was steep enough.
 
I installed a Banks iDash. I've found it helpful to monitor some live performance data. It's plug-and-play. And I mostly agree with H3s comments above however I do like to monitor Regen info and a few other things on longer trips. Time will tell if I keep the thing installed. I don't plan on tuning the truck in the future.

On the tire pressure screen press the right or left button and you can cycle through those gauges.
 
Even if the truck has many of those parameters available on the dash screen, I'd have to cycle through to see them, and can only see one at a time. The Banks will allow me to monitor up to 8 parameters at the same time, same screen. Just for that the Banks would be worth the cost, IMO.

perhaps, in my experience there is no need for an aftermarket gauge with a stock truck especially these ones. But if you have the 7” screen or the full digital gauges you can change the gauges to show you these things all at the same time

Which dash do you have?

I have a CTS3, which I think looks and works much better than the iDash, and while I do enjoy having parameters visible I don’t duplicate anything that’s already on the dash.

IMO there isn’t any reason to monitor oil temp and pressure as neither of those readings is a real value, but are algorithm based and fake.

The “digital” gauges on this EVIC are user configurable.

I second a CTS3 over iDash. I really like Banks products.

The CTS3 is an Edge product tho. iDash is Banks.

I'll stick with the iDash, and let me tell ya why... 8 years ago when I bought my used 06 2500, the previous owner had installed a lot of Banks equipment: Economind tuner, Banks exhaust brake system, full Banks Monster exhaust, Banks air cleaner, etc. When I got that truck, my first diesel, I knew NOTHING about this Banks stuff but of course I had lots of questions. So, I emailed Banks and they were always extremely helpful and spent a lot of time answering my questions and giving advice, even though they knew I was not the original purchaser of the equipment. For the next several years, as questions came up, they were quick to respond with answers, Eventually, the original dash monitor that came with the Economind took a crap. The screen just went blank one day and wouldn't come back on. Banks had discontinued that particular monitor so they offered me an iDash as a replacement, at a substantial discount. I was hesitant to use the iDash at first, mostly cuz I'm not AT ALL techie and I had become quite familiar with the original monitor. But as it turns out, I really liked the iDash, even better than the last one. Also, its important to note that in the nearly 8 years I owned that truck, the monitor screen going blank was the only problem or issue I ever had with any of the Banks equipment. Its solid stuff, and their customer service is absolutely top notch. They've earned my business, and I'm big on that sort of loyalty.

The email I sent to them a week or so ago to ask about the iDash in my new truck, the one I said went unanswered, well that was my fault. Its been a cpl years since I sent an email to Banks, and apparently that email address I used last is no longer valid.

I don't have the digital dash, my gauges are all analog with the little screen in the center for fuel economy, trailer brake, etc. And of course the 8" touch screen in the center of the dash for radio and cameras and such. So with my basic analog dash, the NON-digital dash, are there still options for those other parameters such as boost, trans temp, and EGT? I suppose I could get my fat lazy butt up off the sofa and go outside and mess with it, but what sort of helpful forum conversation would that make? :D
 
The iDash is an incredibly nice monitor, and is well worth the money. I love mine and will be installing one on every truck I buy moving forward. Not only can you monitor parameters outside of what factory options provide, but it serves as a data logger (data monster) as well as a code reader as well. I recommend their Stealthpod mount as it is perfectly placed and fits well in the pillar. Transmission temp is one of the options to look at on the 3.5” Evic display.

You might be right. (It sure would be nice to have a stinkin' OWNERS MANUAL so I could just read about this stuff!!!) Later this eve I'm gonna go mess with it, start pushing buttons and stuff and see if I can find the different parameters that the truck display will show me. However, unless theres a setting on that 3.5" EVIC that will allow me to see several parameters at once, I may still get the iDash.

Decent recommendations, but a few things I’d change.

EGT3 is far more useful than EGT5 as EGT3 is DPF outlet temp and lets the driver know if passive regen is occurring or not.

We already have Trans temp on the dash so I’d monitor torque converter outlet temp over trans temp.

DPFDIS and DPFTIM are known to be erroneous so they aren’t of any real use to the driver.

I’d add DPF delta pressure to the emissions page, as well as DEF concentration %age and DEF CMD.

Engine load is also a very nice number to see so you can get an idea of how hard the engine is working or when it might downshift.

I’d also probably find a spot for the TC lock status
