CJC Skid Plate and License Plate Mod

Finally broke down and bought the CJC skid plate. Love the look; worlds better than the air dam thingy. It's a little thinner than I would prefer, but it will at least keep the winch a little cleaner during the Montana winters. It did present me with one problem: Montana is one of the stupid front-license-plate states. (I miss living in Kentucky in that regard) So...I had to find a place to put the plate that wouldn't have it hanging down below the bumper like a pair of buck teeth. I went with a flip-up plate holder off of Amazon; one that is designed to go behind the fairlead on Jeeps. With the PW winch fairlead being recessed, I had to mount it above the winch directly into the bumper. Just took two holes and I think it looks great! Added rubber bumpers to the back of the two lower screws so the plate stays vertical when down and doesn't push back into the winch. Secondary benefit is that it keeps bugs and such from slamming into the winch line all the time. I eventually filled up the original bumper holes with a couple of plastic license plate nuts/bolts. Can't hardly notice them.

I ran into the same issue with my flip up plate. I didn't feel like drilling holes so I removed the fairlead bolts and mounted it to the front of the fairlead instead of behind. Mine does stick out a touch more than yours.

Looks good

I was thinking of doing that, but I didn't want to mess with those fairlead bolts at all. The bumper is actually quite thin, so it didn't really bother me drilling the holes.
