So because of the grid heater failure, Ive been considering replacing it with the Banks intake. I have a 2020 Ram 3500 CC long bed Longhorn Standard Output Cummins, which has 81,000 miles. My favorite truck I ever bought. I have a factory extended warranty to 100,000 miles. My truck seems like it engages the preheat often. The truck sits outside. Last month when the temp dropped below 60 to like 57F it came on. So Im worried the grid heater trashing my motor. I use this truck for pulling a fifth wheel which weighs about 14,500 lbs loaded.

I wonder if you all have considered other options to fix this issue besides The Banks system? Also do you all think I should wait to 100,000 miles to do the changeout? I'lll continue to look through the posts. I would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks!

I'd also add that adding the Banks intake horn will decrease performance (reduced power, mpg, etc.) on a stock truck. Double R Diesel showed this but has since removed the video (Banks pressured him?).

I saw this video and thought it was very informative. He was not bashing Banks, video simply stated on a stock truck you will lose power which many people on here have stated several times. The gains on a tuned truck were descent but with a large intake plenum like the Banks you wont see big gains until you put on an bigger turbo and really feed it some fuel. Very disappointed the video was removed, this really was an unbiased review of the product.

Agreed. Without a video explaining why he took it down, I have to come to the likely conclusion that Banks pressured him.

As great of an Engineer Banks is, I think he's equally as good as a Marketer. There's no objective data on real-world performance gains/benefits on most of their products relating to these trucks. Maybe we just need a Pedal Monster to unlock the power...

I was skeptical before but now I don't think I'd touch a Banks product.

I appreciate all these responses, I saw somewhere where the 4.5 gens do not have this issue or it’s much more rare. Mine is tight right now.

I’m going to check a 2018 and see if the wire size is larger. My 2020 seems smaller than my 2018. Has anyone looked at that? If it is smaller could they have tsken steps to reduce current to the grid heater?

Contrary to some peoples opinion the Pedal monster does work . I have had one on my truck for over 2 years and it has worked with zero glitches . The response at the different levels is significant . He does compare his products with like products on the market . I don't know why some folks take offense to his marketing skills ,his products seem to do as advertised . Does he hype sure ! So do most manufactures trying to sell their product .

I just got back from a 1,400 mile trip in my 2008 2500. Primarily interstate. Had the Banks installed a couple weeks before the trip. I was getting worse fuel mileage than stock, down 1 to 1.5 MPG. Cannot really say there was any positive change in performance, was only towing a raft trailer.

Sure wish I would have explored cheaper alternatives. Sure wish Cummins would have not designed a land mine into their grid heater.......

BD diesel grid heater fix…

good for peace of mind as it’s actually a very small issue.
