60K miles on this guy, all of a sudden starter will not turn over, both batteries have good voltage, terminals clean , every thing works except it will not start all of a sudden ,
Looks like I'll need to pull the starter now, Just wondering if anyone else had starter issues with their truck
This is a 2021 2500 Diesel , thanks in advance

Have you tried jumping the starter? I have seen some guys have other issues thinking it was the starter. And the batteries having good voltage means nothing i would load test them

Charged them overnight so I'll start looking today, haven't had to change a starter in the last 30 years ,Seems wierd , thanks

If it’s on original batteries and the starter is just going “click” definitely suspect the batteries before diving any further into it. Voltage under load is what you should check, they may show mid 12’s sitting parked, but hit that start button and they may dive into the single digits.

Thanks , it started off multiple times this morning after charging all nite, Using a tester today to see battery condition / charging circuit etc.
So far passing all the tests.

Three years seems to be around the limit for the factory batteries. Another case of the lowest bidder.

Well they both test good with my test meter, charging system passes , alternator charging good as well,
Started 4-5 times then failed to turn over out of the blue, just tries to engage and - no turn.
Now starting to wonder about the starter again.

Did you test them individually with a battery load tester a meter wont load test the batteries and will really tell you nothing? What you are describing now would point to batteries. These new systems are super sensitive for proper voltages

I'm using a Solar Battery tester, does not load test them but verifies the State of health ( 100% ) and state of charge was also 100%,
Charging from Alternator shows around 14 volts - it'a been a Looonnngg time since I ran across a bad starter.
My reasoning is if it's batteries it would not be turning over as good as it does , - when it fails it acts like low voltage , keep at it and it engages and spins fine and starts
Puzzling to say the least, Thanks for your input and I'm giving it lots of weight .

Need to test with a carbon pile load tester. Each battery individually After disconnecting the negative terminal.

Yes I agree regarding the removal of the cable , I will go to Orielly auto and see if they can load test it , thanks again

One Battery failed load test, the other was on it's last legs, swapped them out - hopefully that was it , thanks again
likely is, its wild how these systems act but the fact that it started again after charging the batteries was a dead giveaway
