Soft pad between back end of oil pan and connection to block

There is some kind of black soft pad between my oil pan and the engine block.
Does anyone know what that specific part is?

That is the oil diaper as thats what it does best it also reduces some noise, they have one on the injector rails under the hood too
 
Yea. mainly for noise as the sniper said. I removed mine to prevent corrosion from forming. The one mentioned on the fuel rail is gone too. No fear of corrosion up there, I simply removed it because I like less crap in the way when I need to work on stuff and did not notice any increased noise after removal.

I removed mine for corrosion reasons too
