What did you do TO your RAM today?

I installed AMP's bed step. Not too hard to install, and very sturdy.
Only a wire harness was in the way and not able to set as per instructions. I had to reroute things a bit.

Sorry no pics, mostly worked in the dark.

I partially removed the rear part of the center console today to route two USB extension cables and punch a hole in the cubby to route two 90* USB adapter cables to keep things tucked in. Sort of a semi-permanent solution to get USB power to the rear seat.

I fished one under the carpet at the center hump to the rear seat to plug in my Tireminder transmitter that I will Velcro to the C Pillar. The other was routed into the center console then forward to run power for my spare phone/Torque/AlphaOBD. That leave all the front ports open and reduces the cable clutter.

The two rear USB are one on BAT+ (no data) and one on IGN+ and data (USB-3). In addition to the 90*, I put data blockers on the USB-3 extension cable and also on both the USB-2 ports and the USB-A port on USB-1. I don't generally need or want either USB-3 or USB-2 to connect to Android Auto (yes I can disable a device but only after it's been paired) and also sometimes I just want to charge my phone without using AA or screen mirroring. The wireless charger is useless as goose poop on a pump handle for my phone in a case and I keep it in a cradle on top of the dash anyway.

Removing the rear center console:
  • Pull the U shaped top trim piece (striped faux wood for Limited)
  • Gently pry out the thin trim bezel piece from top to bottom - there may be a way to do the next 2 steps without this but they weren't coming off easily so I pulled it
    • You don't have to pull the cup holder to remove the console but I needed access to the top side of the cubby to drill a hole and it's easier to remove beforehand while the whole bezel is still attached
  • Remove the rubber cup holder insert
  • Remove the 2 top screws holding the cup holder (do not need to remove the 4 small torx screws)
  • Remove the plastic cup holder (two clips)
  • Pull the console rearward until the clips release
  • Don't pull too far, the wire bundles are pinned to the console frame
I loosened the top lid metal frame by removing 6 screws so I could route the USB cable head along the vent tube and under the passenger side hinge. One could also push/run the wire along the bottom of the console near the floor carpet up to the front and come back into the console. I have foam dividers in my console so I could tuck/hide the cable in the bottom.

Went on a little trip last Saturday and returned yesterday evening. Little under 900 miles round trip from Puyallup, WA to St. Regis, MT and back. Family get together for my gf and some of her family. We stayed on some private land on Clark Fork River. Beautiful country out that way. Truck hit 3000 miles less than a mile from home yesterday. Averaged 10 mpg for whole trip. Truck (3/4 full of fuel) and camper (full of 61 gallons of water and gear) weighed in around 14,900 lbs across weigh station in Idaho. Wish I had a 50 gallon tank. Definite upgrade in the future.

I hope you’re ok. It’s a bad feeling when stuff like that happens to you when have you something nice and you love. Hopefully it’s an easy repair with a new bumper facia and the color matches up.

I love the versatility, just hate to drill into the tailgate. I guess you could put some lock tight on there for extra security to not have your tg fill up with water

Good idea. I do have a tonneau cover which does help protect the inside of the tailgate from the elements...

Just a heads up of anyone who might be interested in that product. I found o ff on Wal-Mart.com for almost half the price at 31.80 . Looks the same to me plus if you don't like it just take it back to the store

Actually that one doesn’t seem quite as nice as the Beech Lane. The hardware that came with mine is better than what comes with the Traxion. Sure, you could go to Home Depot and get better screws but sometimes life is just too short...

More often than not, you get what you pay for... too many times I've bought inexpensive to have to replace again with what I should have bought the first time.

I was thinking about cheating out because
1: I'm cheap
2: I'm holding out on a retractable step voucher deal from ram
Wishful thinking I know. Also it kills me too drill new holes into a 85k truck.

Oh, besides the tailgate ladder, I also got the dealer to install the Mopar mudflaps, and I also got an Extang Encore tonneau cover, which I really like, as it opens from both the back and front, which is nice as I store my tools in the front. I have yet to try hitching up with the tonneau cover in place, so I don't know whether it blocks the view of the hitch from the bed camera. We'll see in a few weeks.IMG_0963.jpeg

On my backflip, i can see the hitch head in the cargo cam and able to align perfect but if I turn my head to look out back glass for proper heighth, i can't see over folded up bakflip. I'm actually contemplated taking an old phone and turning it into a camera/ monitor and strapping it in my bed so i can see pin box level from my active phone in cab
