Thuren Level + Factory Rear Air, 3500 Dually

You can measure your specific truck, but my auto-level 3500 would be nose high if I used the 0.5” springs in alternate ride height.

You can play a little with the ride height sensors for more height at a cost of empty ride.

I really wanted the 0.5” Thuren springs, but at the end of the day I didn’t find them compatible with my auto-level in alternate ride height.

I installed their active rate anti-sway bar and boogie bumps, the ride is awesome.

It works fine....the 1/2" is not even noticeable....had those in my 22 and it rides a lot nicer....it'll sit level....

Using bed lowering mode and weight in the bed to lower the rear being nose high by even just a 1/2” is very noticeable…. But at the end of the day it comes down to what the owner is comfortable with.

Additionally any payload aft of the rear axle (I.e. bumper pull trailer) will decrease the front axle weight and cause it to rise, making the nose high attitude more noticeable.

A tape measure to the wheel wells will give a quick idea of how much it will change. Alt is 1” lower than norm.

Alt ride height is stupid ....and a 1/2" is very noticeable? As long as we're talking about truck suspensions he won't even notice the 1/2" increase in the front... You should let those of us who've actually done this mod talk about it....

Which one of these trucks has the thuren coils on it?

If you think alt ride height is stupid then you’re not one to give advise on a 3500 auto-level system, it’s that simple.

Which one of these trucks has the thuren coils on it?

No doubt it looks great in normal ride height, but that’s not the proper way to use auto-level when towing… drop that DRW down an inch in alt and it’ll look silly.

Besides comparing rake between an auto-level 3500 and a 2500 is apples to oranges, since they have different rear ride heights.

So stupid Ram chose to give us the option.

I use Alt trailer height to lower the truck rear and get my RV (and boat under double tow) to ride level (within 1/4"). Next set of RV tires this spring I'm going up one size and will still need to use Alt trailer height to level it (perfectly level or 1/4" nose low). Moving the hitch(es) or pinbox just isn't an acceptable compromise, particularly when I have a little button I can push.

Alt trailer height also reduces the air in the bags under load, makes for a better ride, and get this... Levels the truck.

Dually with front springs is going to ride nose high with a load on it with or without alt ride height.

My advise on the auto level is don't get it.... aftermarket systems are more versatile....it's that simple...still don't have a guess?

Springs in the front or not on this one?

Springs in the front or not on this one?

Looks nose high and overloaded. We know it’s not overloaded, so I’ll wager that’s got the level kit.

That look may not bother you, but that’s where we all get to make our preference.

I’ve ran both systems and the auto-level is far superior for towing/hauling as well as empty ride.

How is it more versatile? Trying to use it out of its design characteristics? Trying to compensate for a level so you don’t look nose high like your above photo?

That’s also a different statement than “alt riding right is stupid”. Last night you didn’t like one of the two modes, this morning you don’t like the entire setup.

@williamfr if you want to know how your truck will set then get out a tape measure. Measure from a fixed point on the wheel to the fender, not from the ground. I like the lip between the center cap and wheel. Then look at the difference. Subtract 1” from the rear for alt ride height.

I just went out and measured mine again.

Front: 22 3/4”
Rear: 23 3/4”

That’s in normal, so in alt I’m dead level unless I have a lot of tongue weight on a bumper pull.

You can see that I’d still have a nice rake in normal with the 0.5” springs but would be nose high in alt with them.

If I really wanted to level the truck I’d do the 1.75” thuren level kit at 1” rear block with 1” rear spacers and then adjust the sensors to have a 1” rake in normal. That would preform well and keep the truck from being nose high when loaded. I seriously considered this route, but don’t want to have to lift my 5th wheel anymore than I already have.

For reference this is alt ride height with about 6,500lbs on the rear axle, 5,300lbs on the front axle, and ~1,300-1,500lbs of tongue weight. With 0.5” level springs it would be nose high and look overloaded.

This is with the .5”?

I didn’t really want to get in the middle of the argument so I waited lol
The pic with the GN attached is on stock springs....the truck is also on a slight incline making it look rear low....one of the things some of these know it alls don't understand is with the plush ride coils the front will push down farther with weight in the bed...like my GN and your 5er....it's not an obscene grotesque Carolina lean as some would suggest....and the coils ride amazing....when unloaded the front axle will glide over a bump you won't know is there until your rear ends jumps a little because of it....in the post where I posted both trucks....they both have the thuren coils...

Less than 1/4”, going to show what the human eye can detect for off level. FAW is actually higher than empty FAW, even with the tongue weight.

Why would I want to make it worse with 0.5” lift springs? Even with the softer rate they ride higher, it wouldn’t compress them loaded or unloaded. Simple physics.

Never said I don't like rear air...I said alt ride height is stupid...ram just automatically knows that for all situations a 1" rear drop on alt ride height is what we want/need? Don't think so....it's an archaic limited system that ties into the canbus....I don't want to be limited by what ram programs in to the system....if I want higher than level then I can adjust it to that....if I want 1/2" lower or 2" lower.....I have those options ....

Trying to compensate for a level....a 1/2" height adjustment is hardly a level....you exaggerate soooo much.....had to add the overloaded comment even tho you know it isn't....too funny....like you said different strokes....I hate the factory limitations....if you love them....that's your problem....

Why is your trailer nose high....for the love of God for being so picky about level your setup must drive you crazy....why not adjust that ball down and put your truck at regular ride height....level trailer and truck that won't look "overloaded"?

The 1” drop is pretty simple to understand, it’s where the overloads are engaged to improve loaded handling.

It does look overloaded, sorry you don’t like that. We know it isn’t, unless you’re hiding a bunch of lead below the bed rails.

How is a 1/2” lift not a level? There is only 1” difference front to rear on the auto-level 3500’s.

Trailer is actually level, nice try thou.

Maybe your calibrated eye is seeing double this morning.

At the end of the day @williamfr asked if his rear end would appear sagging while towing. The answer is yes (unless he doesn’t use alt ride height), and you’ve tried to argue around it but just supported the fact that it will. That’s all there is to it.

A 1/2" isn't a level because the truck still has a rake....or were you dropped on your head? I don't know what it is you think you're gaining by driving around at alt ride height with a trailer a 1/2 ton can tow....this isnt the first time your towing nonsense has been called out...a truck with factory rear air doesn't have the "overloads" so try again.....op asked if rear air will level his truck....not if he rides around at alt height....the answer is yes....
