Michelin Defender LTX Platinum

This is the same thoughts I have. Although I love the look of them in certain sizes oddly enough. Like in a 275/55r20 on stock half ton gmc wheels on my friends truck they look great. But in stock Ram 2500 size on stock wheels they look kinda meh to me on Ram 2500. Just imo but I loved them when I had them outside of looks.
 
Idk why it gives me tractor trailer / all terrain bastard child vibes

Maybe its jus me but, to me it looks like they would have terrible traction off road however, they are likely quiet and wear good.

That center tread design looks like a hydroplane hazard to me, I can't see it being able to shed water fast enough, but what do I know, I'm just a dude at a keyboard. I would think the engineers at michelin conjured up some witchcraft to make it work.

To me a tire looks good when its tread pattern is squared off to the sidewall vs. round. the LTX is round to the sidewall, vs. say a BFG being square to the sidewall.

However, when those center voids are packed with snow ❄️ they may produce good traction.
 
The extent of my off road driving is in wet grass or a muddy field pulling my 5th wheel. There is the occasional gravel or rutted out dirt/mud road as well. I don't do rock climbing or off road trails, so an off road tread is not important to me. Traction in wet grass, in muddy fields, in rain or on ice and snow are what are important for me.
I ran Michelin ATXs on my F350 dually averaging 85,000 miles per set. They got good traction in all the previously mentioned conditions - especially for a dually.
I don't really know how many miles the tires on my Ram are going to last, but indications on this forum are not very long. I'm figuring when they wear out I'll be looking hard at Michelins again.
Back in the day I ran BFG K0s on my 96 Grand Cherokee limited and was super happy with them. I was surprised to learn (a couple years ago) that Michelin considers their Goodrich line to be "inferior" to their Michelin line of tires. The K0s seem to have fallen out of favor to the extent that I am reluctant to put a set on a truck these days.

Agree with that lol! Def a city boy tire. My ram will never see off-road use though only paved roads with some towing and road trips. So no need for a tire that is the opposite. All depends on vehicle usage.

I had BFG KO tires on a 1/2 ton and loved them years ago. Put them on my 2018 Ram 2500 and that was a huge mistake, Thuren is right with their suggestion.
 
Definitely a street oriented tire. I’m assuming wet traction will be decent as Michelin really doesn’t mess around in that area. Probably good in the snow too.

IMO the LTX AT2 is one of the best all around truck tires out there, and I’m not referring to the OE equipped versions you find on Ford, GM, etc.

I had a set on my 2011 1500 that looked great still even after 40K miles on. Quiet, good ride and excellent traction in dry, wet and snowy conditions. The little bit of dirt they saw (had a Jeep at the time, so no real need to take the truck off road) I was impressed with performance too.

I’m heavily leaning towards a set to replace the factory Transforce on my truck currently. I’ve also been pleased with the Bridgestone Dueler Revo’s on the wife’s Grand Cherokee, so those may find their way on my truck instead.
 
Those look....weird.

As for the sidewall pattern. Meh. I don't want aggressive looking tires on my Longhorn. Won't look right. I like my LTX M/S2's.
 
Found a Ram 4th gen 2500 running these new tires in a 295/65r20 (35”). I like his description of what most Michelins look like, “balloons” haha. But anyway I think they actually look pretty good (for a Michelin) for how quiet I bet they are.
