New owner Of 2023 Ram 3500 diesel dually and have been reading articles about the exhaust break. I always thought that the only time to use the exhaust was when you were towing. Some say that you should have it on all the time towing or not. Looking for any thoughts.
thanks

Good for the turbo and good for the brakes. While not built into the turbo I used my exhaust brake on my 2003 HO dually all the time. Got 80K miles out of the original brakes. A lot of that towing. The EB on my 2021 is way stronger than the 2003. Really slows down my heavy fifth wheel in T/H.

Yeah its pretty much a routine for me. Been doing it for 10 years on all my work trucks and now on my personal truck.
Fire truck up and push exhaust brake and turn off traction control every time.

But don't use it on snow/ice, as it will likely make you swap ends really fast when it engages in 2wd on slick roads.
With our old diesel I always used the brakes as little as possible to help fuel mileage - downshift - no EB
New to me in August, '22 RAM 2500 6.7 68RFE, I've put 10,000 mi on it, almost 65,000 now.
I've been satisfied using the automatic EB setting, but is there a setting that it would only brake when I touch the brakes & Not every time I let off the accelerator ?
Or maybe I just need to keep a light touch on the accelerator when I want to coast ?

Thanks guys

Auto will do just when you press the brakes or to hold cruise speed when down hill

Auto (green light) does exactly that. Full (amber) comes on anytime you’re off the accelerator.

Both will only activate when the torque converter is locked so you may notice periods of time when slowing where it cuts in and out.

Makes sense - Thank you

I'm noticing now that's what it does with no trailer & a light load in the bed (1,000 lb) - on EB auto,

oops, wait a minute - it's E braking me when I'm going downhill from a bridge, maybe 15% grade

I'll just give her the best maintenance I can and let her do her job.

Different subject all together -

I'm sure there is a list somewhere of the upgrades that can be done without voiding factory warranty ?
Air filter/intake, 'performance module' ?

I still got 34k mi of Dodge drivetrain left and the dealer here actually did pretty well recently on a couple issues.

Thanks again friends

Interesting read here. I was not aware of the benefits of running the EB full time. Works really well towing. Any effects on MPG.

There probably is some effect on mileage but would be minor. Never bought this thing for economy . However I do keep track of my economy as it can be an indicator of engine health.
