This was in the bag with my fifth wheel plastic covers. 20231120_153001.jpgI don't know what it is for. Anyone know?

Don't feel bad. That one perplexes just about everyone when they first get their truck! Likely something you won't use too often (or ever)

What irks me about this part, or more correctly, what irks me about the the tailgate connector in the first place is I can't unplug that frigging thing!! Unless I have a couple of pointed, angled, probe-like tools, and hope not to chip the tailgate paint, the plug is nearly impossible to disconnect so I can remove the tailgate. I certainly can't do it with just my fingers. The opening in the truck body where the connector is located is about 1/8 inch too small to be able to pull the connector out of it for disconnection. I bitched at my local dealership and the mechanic there told me to use the aforementioned pointed, angled, probe-like tools. I call BS on that but he just shrugged.

Should I squawk louder?

I've never had an issue with disconnecting the wires. Are you going by what Ram recommends?

At 18 seconds it shows the man pulling the connector bracket out of the chassis bed. From there he pushes in the tab on the chassis wiring harness. Sound easy enough. Except with mine, I can't pull the connector bracket out of the chassis hole. I can only rotate it toward me a couple of degrees to kind of expose the wiring harness tab...kinda. That's when I have to use an awl or some other pointed tool to reach into the chassis hole to push the disconnect tab. A three-handed dude could do, but I only have two hands. One to rotate the connector bracket a few degrees to expose the tab, one hand to use the awl to push down the tab, and one hand (which I don't have) to pull apart the connector.

If I try to use a screw driver to pry out the bracket I know that I'll chip the chassis paint. Grrrrrrr!

[Edited] Here's a pic of what I'm talking about. This is a far as I can pull the connector bracket out. Not far enough to expose the tab.

You could always try and remove the connectors reaching from under the truck. I've done it that way before.
