I haven't posted in a while, but I ran into a recent issue with my truck.
Mine is a 2022 Ram 2500 MC CTD with about 18,500 miles.

A lot of my trips are unloaded and can be short, but I keep a close eye on the DPF indicator especially before I tow as I hate seeing my MPGs drop and it is regenerating while towing.
Anyways, if I see it somewhat nearing 50%, I run the truck hard for an hour or so to force it actively or passively.

Fast forward to about 3 weeks ago, I noticed my MPGs lowly going down from 18 overall down to 14.6 and this is normal driving.
The last time I saw it do that was a sign to replace the air filter. Well I just replaced it a few 1000 miles earlier, could it be that dirty already?
So I replaced it with a non glue strip one.

I had a 2 hour trip pulling a boat, no problems eh?

Well, I started experiencing some weird performance issues, and was not sure if it was related the recently replaced air filter or something else.
I reach my destination, unloaded the boat and took off to meet up some friends for dinner

The next morning we were to head out fishing.
I get into the truck start it to warm it up, hook the boat back up and headed towards the boat launch.
As I was heading there, there was some bucking coming from the engine, like it was starving for fuel.
The bucking eventually stopped, and seemed a bit normal.
Driving the 2 hours back home, I was getting messages stating "Regeneration in progress keep driving"
The Keep driving message is new, weird. So I kept driving as I had some time to clear it out
Eventually after the trip, the DPF gauge said empty. Cool, whew.
But now I am getting CEL.
I scan it and the first error was a P0299 and the second was a P242F

I finally took it to the dealer and they said the DPF is bad, with no explanation of the root cause on why it became full as of yet.

I hope they aren't the type of dealer to throw parts at it and collect the warranty check

What “new” air filter did you put in?

Fleetguard
Ok that’s a good one. As you may of read the wrong filters can cause excessive regen, for some. It seems the 2022 trucks are a big problem child with this issue, with no fix on the table yet.

Dealers dont know what they are doing with emissions systems they often just throw a new DPF as a fix instead of finding the cause

They actually have a step by step guide for the technicians to go through. Monkey see monkey do

Yea but thats not always followed besides i have seen the SOP they use its not great nothing involving checking the EGR/intake air system which is usually the issue

At 18k miles? when it is warm out? I call BS
The diesel tech isn't a fly by night just fell off the school bus

EGR issues are 75% of the time the cause of the DPF clogs. Ambient temps are pretty irrelevant if the truck is hitting OP temp. And most good diesel mechanics work at dedicated diesel shops not automotive dealerships as pickups suck to work on in comparison so just because the monkey at the dealership has the “Diesel Tech” status don't assume they have the experience to back it up.
