AAM 12" Axle Gear Swap

In my case w/ 40s, any closer I can get to stock powerband would be worth it since I have 1,500#’s in the bed full time. 4.44 would be preferred but I’ll take 4.10s at this point. Maybe an empty truck wouldn’t mind. I usually have payload in the bed, a bike on a rack or a trailer behind it. Also the low speed trail powerband would be improved.

Interested…37s would move nicely with 4.44 gears.

I haven’t yet seen any aftermarket gears so this is awesome. One bad part about having a new truck is having to wait years for aftermarket parts!

Last truck was a 04 Silverado, you could find anything for that thing.

I’m in the same boat trying to move my 42’s.
I was probably just going to order the 4.44’s and try it out . I would still be below factory by about 100 rpm’s

Nice! Have any pics posted up? Do you have a 12” or 11.5? Thx

It’s a 12 inch rear

They are incredible tires ! Super quiet.
I had the interco snipers before these and they were horrible .

Have some useful information for this thread.

Called Yukon Gear just for shiggles to see what they have to say. They're developing gears now however it will most likely be end-of-year before they have offerings. Their reasoning is that there are quite a few variations that they have found within the axles and are figuring out which ones to accommodate.

Called up Nitro and they sent me a quote for 4.44 gears  apparently the SRW rear axle is different from the DRW rear axle and they have an OE AAM gear that will work along with master install kit, etc.

I have a 2020 3500 limited with the H/O Cummins SRW 4X4 and I found out this is a 12 inch diff . This also has air bag leveling also and does not work right.

just saying that the 12 inch diffs are allot more common than first thought. I was looking for diff cover gaskets for rear and front.

All HO trucks have the 12” R&P, but all trucks 19+ use the 12” housing and cover.

The air system on my 2020 3500 works as designed.

That said, if you're having an issue and wish to put it out for discussion, please start a new thread, this one is about axle gears.

Would you mind explaining this more and where you got that info from? I have a 2020 2500 6.4. Trying to wade through all of the differing bits of info I have gotten. Thanks a bunch!

Your 2500 6.4 uses the 11.5” R&P, but the housing & cover are the larger size that also fits the 12.0” R&P.

Is there any way I can be sure

How do you know that? I’m curious because everyone says that the only one that has the 11.5 is the power wagon with the rear locked. I’m not calling you wrong, I just have heard so much back and forth mystery about this.

The PW uses the old 11.5” housing, both use 11.5” gears.

Just look at a diff cover for the 19+ trucks, its for 2500/3500 and excludes the PW.

Your build sheet will show the 11.5” R&P.

Wow okay! I have never looked at my build sheet and it does say 11.5”. So that means I should be able to regear with the old 11.5” r&p gears? Does that also mean you could theoretically go to a 12” also?

Lastly, if you go to 4.88 or 5.14 with the 11.5 r&p is there something special to do to make the 4.88 or 5.14 to work with the 12” housing? Bushings/bearings/seals etc?
