New here and new-ish to rims and tires. I have a 2018 ram 2500 Laramie and I'm looking at keeping the stock 18"x8 rims.

I, however, am nervous putting wider tires on such a narrow rim. Considering installing 295x70x18 but everything I've read online says even factory tires at 10.8" wide are too wide for that rim, which, I know the factory wouldn't send them out on tires too wide for the rim, right?.... google is telling me 245 is the largest tire for that wide of a rim. I could be over-cautious in the matter...

Guess to sum it up.... is an 11.6" wide tire too wide for the 18"x8" factory rims? Also, has anyone experienced any tire issues(blow outs, etc) running the 295x70x18 tires on factory 18" rims?

NOTE: from my google searches it appears the rims are 18x8 but I cant back that up....

Really? Tirerack lists that size (at least on the Yoko Geolandar M/T I looked up real quick) as acceptable on a 7.5"-10" width wheel.

Also you'll be just fine. People rolling around on 35x12.5's on various stock wheels every day with zero problems. I wouldn't worry about the size you want one bit.

I ran 295/70/18 Falken Wild Peak AT3W on the stock 18x8 wheels that came on my Silverado 3500 for 2 years with no issues. Used that truck to tow my RV fishouse year round. Had it in some pretty deep snow and constantly on really crappy winter roads and never had any problems.

I’m not sure where you got some of your information, but a 295/70R18 is fine on the OEM 18x8” wheels. If you look at manufacturer tire spec tables they usually have an approved rim width and a measured rim width. Approved with for this size is 7.5-10”. Measured is 8.5”, so the height/width measurements may be slightly different in a 8” wheel.

A 245/70R17 has an approved rim width of 6.5-7.5, so an 8” rim is too wide and why OEM rims for that size tire are 17x7”. I can’t find an 18” equivalent size.

Thanks for the info guys. Kinda confirmed some of what I was reading on other threads here.

When I googled widest tire for an 8" rim the first thing that came up was giving me 245 which is what gave me pause on the matter.

I guess I was just curious if anyone had any issues in and around the bead and side wall running an 11.6" tire on factory 18x8s. Google is kinda all over the place on the matter so I figured I'd seek answers from people with expierence before I dumped another 2 grand into it.

Finn, how do you like those Falken tires? I was considering Bridgestone revo III that i ran on my last 2 trucks but I have heard good things about the wild peak A/T3. Do mostly highway driving but in deer season and to fishing spots I roll down quite a bit of dirt trails, nothing too crazy

I just put on 295/70r18 Nitto Ridge Grappler they fit just fine. I was going to do BFG K02 305/70r18 but they did not come in time.

Great tires, I’ve had them on multiple different trucks. IMO you can’t do much better for all around performance in any tire. Low road noise, 3-peak snow rated, good wet and dry traction. I’ve had a lot of different tires and none better than them. I’m currently running Cooper discover at3 XLTs and am very happy with these as well. Haven’t had them in the winter yet though. And with the ice fishing I do my tires get tested well in the winter so we’ll see
